Christmas in August Class

Here's a snap shot of the cards we made on Sunday August 26th at my Christmas in August Card Class.

We had a lovely 4 hours of creative fun trying new techniques (Herringbone) and playing with the new Ornament Keepsake stamp set and framelit die bundle.  Oh and did I say there was lots of laughing!

I'll be repeating this class in September so if you're interested in participating let me know.  Cost is $20.00 however fee is waived when a minimum order of $25.00 is placed at the class.

I also have Holiday Catalogues on hand so if you are looking for new ideas, would like to host a party or workshop or just simply want to have a catalogue contact me for more information.

Love these Button Buddy Snowmen and the Mixed Medley Hostess Set.  Raspberry Ripple and Gumball Green card stock were used along with Be of Good Cheer Designer Series Paper.  A little touch of Silver Glimmer paper adds some sparkle to this card.
Here's a closeup of the little Medallion made with the Mixed Medley Hostess Set.  Basic Rhinestones gives it a bit of bling and the Gumball Green 3/8" Stritched Satin Ribbon adds to the fun.  The sentiment is stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink.

This wonderful crazy quilt pattern called the "Herringbone Design", really livens up this Christmas card.  It was fun to make and everyone was dying to try it again with different DSP.  This one is made with the 4 different patterns from the Be of Good Cheer Designer Paper Series.  An ornament from the Ornament Keepsakes Bundle was used for the centre focal point in this card and some of the red glimmer cardstock adds some pizzazz.

This card is a remake of the one I did for the Vernon Girls Night Out party a few weeks ago.  The only differences are that the small sheet of Glossy White cardstock has been embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing folder and a larger ribbon was used for the ornament.
Our Ornament Keepsake card was a lot of fun to make. The card base is Pacific Point and a layer of Tempting Turquoise followed by a Whisper White layer that's been embossed using the Holiday Frame Embossing Folder.  It's so beautiful and this picture just doesn't capture the depth of the embossing.  The ornament was coloured with markers.  I used Basic Gray for the ornament cap, Tempting Turquoise for the base colour and Pacific Point was rolled around the ornament edges.   Basic Rhinestones were added at the base on each of the sides of the ornament and at the top of the cap.

I discovered later in the day that I had a big finger print on the lens of my camera........duh, no wonder everything kept blurring.  So, apologies for this little blurred out shot of Ethel DeTemple and Sheri Lee with their versions of the Snowman cards.   What a fun time we had!

Remember I will be holding this class again in September so please check out my Event Calendar and register to attend.  It's a great way to start getting ready for the card season ahead!

Happy Stamping!

Late Night Stampers Glenda Witt and Julie Fields

While updating my LNS Treasure Hunt Web Link  this evening I checked out a couple of fellow demonstrator's blogs.  The first was  Glenda Witt of GraphicallyInking. What a great site!

Glenda recently posted a card using the Floral District DSP that I'm sure you'll love.  The  warm and vivid colours really caught my fancy and the sentiment from the Loving Thoughts stamp set  is simply "wonderful".

Here's a glimpse at Glenda's card but you'll have to visit her site to get all the the details.  While there don't forget to leave a comment, check out the other awesome cards in her gallery and write down her Treasure Hunt Clue.

The second LNS member that I'd like to highlight tonight is Julie Fields of Ribbons N' Julz blogJulie has created a delightful card called "Winter Ombre" using a sketch from "I Spy Sketches" and inspiration from the Stampin' Royalty site.  The stamp set, Four Seasons is a hostess set featured in the 2012/2013 Idea Book and Catalogue.

I love the cool wintery blend of Island Indigo and Tempting Turquoise cardstocks and inks and I also love the embossing on velum that makes this card so special. In fact, just looking at this card makes me want to drop everything get out my Four Seasons set and ink it up!  Thanks for the inspiration Julie!
Julie is also participating in the Treasure Hunt and has posted her clue, so you'll want to check it out.  Be sure to leave her a comment and let her know you came from my blog.

Remember the LNS Treasure Hunt is open to everyone so be sure to play along.  All of the links to the LNS Web Ring and Treasure Hunt are found on the page at the top of my blog header.  Happy Stamping and Treasure Hunting!

How Do You Make 31 into 45?

Change is good, right??? Well here’s some change in numbers that I think is really good! Honest!

Stampin’ Up!® has just announced to its demos that they’ve decided to extend the 31% Off Digital sale until September 14!   That’s turning 31 into 45 in a BIG WAY!

Stampin’ Up!® recognizes that summer is a busy time and most of you are wrapping up summer stuff, getting everybody ready for back to school, back to work, etc.  Things are hectic and busy right now.  In fact if you’re like me, it’s hard to work on crafting projects in the summer when you want to be out in the sunshine and enjoying the outdoor activities that abound.

Stampin’ Up!® realizes that this change doesn't go along with their little "31 theme," but . . . who cares? When we're talking SALE, 45 days is better than 31! Right?  In fact, they decided to extend the sale because demos like me and customers like you, asked for more time since there was so much going on in August with the release of MDS 2 at the same time.
Now everybody can have a little more breathing room to finish their projects to send off to the print services and take advantage of this great promotion.  Don't forget about the 31 digital content items on sale too. Make sure you check these out and snatch up your favorites before September 14.

I’m so relieved because I want to use the printing services so badly for my Convention Album and a little surprise album for my hubby’s birthday in October.  I just haven’t had the time to organize it and now with this extension I’ll be able to finish both.  Whew what a relief!

Anyhow, keep an eye out for some new ads about this extension, they’ll be out  by September 1st and I’ll keep you updated.

Our intuitive digital design software features Stampin’ Up!’s exclusive artwork, colors, and templates. Be your own digital designer and create an array of photobooks, cards, calendars, slideshows, and more—which you can then print using Stampin’ Up!’s print services, or save to DVD, e-mail, or upload to the Internet.

Highlights of Vernon Trip

Last week my husband and I went on a road trip to Vernon BC to visit with my dear SIL Mary Ann.  You wouldn't know it from the big smile on her face, but Mary Ann has terminal lung cancer.  She's at peace with her diagnosis and has chosen not to receive any further treatment, so every moment with her now is precious.

Although our time there was short we had a really good visit and enjoyed taking Mary Ann for lunch, sightseeing and a trip to the casino where she won some cash.

One of the things Mary Ann has taken great pleasure in over the past few weeks are the "Thinking of You" and "Sunshine" cards (anything in yellows and bright colors like the Summer Smooches) I've been sending her on a weekly basis.  She's set up a special box in her room so she can look at the cards when she's feeling down and/or lonely.

Since receiving the cards seems to give Mary Ann a lift and such great pleasure, I sent out a request on Late Night Stampers and Stampin' Connection this week for a "Shower of Cheery Cards" for her.  If you'd like to participate and send her a card just drop me an email at pennyhanuszak@telus.net and I'll forward you her address.   Only thing I ask is for no "sympathy" or "get well" cards as they're not appropriate for her.  Thanks for the understanding.

What Else Happened While We Were There?

While out for dinner at the Blue Heron restaurant our first evening, we experienced some real excitement as we watched a forest fire burning on the hillside across the lake from where we dined. Water bombers were coming and going and fire retardants were being dropped on the blaze.   It was very frightening to watch how close the flames came to two homes on this ridge.  Luckily the firefighters were able to contain this blaze and the homes were out of danger.

In this picture you can actually see the flames and the homes were just to the right of all this action.

What a busy time we had while in Vernon.  We were only there for two days, but between the excitement of the fire, visiting my SIL and staying at my own sister's home, there was a lot going on and we packed in so much!

The day after we arrived my sister was hosting a Crown Jewels luncheon in her back yard so we helped her get her fabulous buffet together.  I showed her how to use Paula Dean's Panko Chicken recipe to liven up her baked chicken dish.  It was appreciated by all.

My sister and friend Linda setting up luncheon before guests arrived.  She has a lovely backyard, just perfect for this type of soiree.

Before leaving to come home I held a Vernon Girls Card night with my sister and Phyllis in attendance. The other gals were unable to come because of prior commitments so it was just the three of us, but we had a wonderful time sitting outside on the patio making our projects.  I should say it was lovely until dusk arrived and the mosquitos came out in full-force. Here are some of the projects we made.
I cased this card from one by Vicki Kiyohara I received at the LNS swap at Convention.   The cute little snowmen are from the Button Buddies stamp set and are coloured individually with Baja Breeze, Wisteria Wonder and Wild Wasabi markers.  The striped DSP is from the "Be of Good Cheer" designer paper on pg. 164 of the IB&C.  The card base and layers are made with Sahara Sand, Wild Wasabi and Whisper White  cardstocks.  This was a thoroughly delightful card to make..... thanks Vicki for the inspiration.

Another project we made was a small ornament using the Ornament Keepsakes Bundle from the page 3 of the Holiday catalogue.  The ornaments were a lot of fun to make and a really big hit with the gals.  Although it may be hard to see them from this poor photograph, basic rhinestones were used to highlight the patterns on each side of the ornament.  Clear beads and pearls were used on the hanging portions of this ornament.

Another case, this Glimmer Window Ornament card was made based on a video tutorial by Stampintoshare.com. This card was made with a basic black cardstock base.  The first layer and ornament layer are made with glossy white cardstock.  The ornament image is punched out with the Ornament punch #119847 on page 184.  Red and silver glimmer paper were used for the ornament base and design.

This card was made with one of the tags from the Snow Festival Designer Printed Tags.  I simply mounted the tag on a  Cherry Cobbler cardstock base.  Clean and simple but what a cute card.

It was a lot of fun making these projects and I will be repeating this class on Sunday August 26th from 10:30 to 2:00pm.  If you're interested in attending please contact me for details and to confirm your attendance.

Happy Stamping!

Snow Festival Designer Printed Tags

Christmas is coming and you're going to need tags!  So, why not get them now. Just check out the awesome Snow Festival Designer Printed Tags #128152 shown on page 12 of the Holiday Catalogue.  They're a grate value priced at only $4.95.

Each pad of Snow Festival Designer Printed tags includes five each of five double-sided tag designs measuring 4 1/2" x 3 1/8". That's plenty of space to stamp a seasonal sentiment or write a note.

My personal favourite is the cute little reindeer.  These tags co-ordinate perfectly with the following Stampin' Up! inks and cardstocks:  Baja Breeze, Cherry Cobbler, Gumball Green, Primrose Petals, Soft Suede and Whisper White and they are acid free.

Just think of the possibilities!  Here's a few I'm going to try:

  • Christmas Cards - use the design side on  a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4" card front - you could make 25 Christmas cards in no time!
  • Use the pattern side of the tags as a layer
  • Journalling tags on your holiday scrapbook pages - they're acid free.
  • Gift Labels (see the coffee cup wrap on page 12)
