Time for a Sketch Challenge - FMS #567

Amy is the sketch hostess for the Freshly Made Sketch challenge #567 this week.

Here's My Card:

For today's card I decided to make a monochromatic masculine birthday card featuring images from the retired Game On stamp set from Stampin' Up!  I liked the sketch as presented, however decided to flip it to a landscape card because the circle images just worked better for my layout that way.

The card base is an 8 1/2 x 5 1/2" piece of Cinnamon Cider cardstock that is scored at 4 1/4".  I created a stamped layer on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock that measures 5 1/4" x 4".

To create the background I stamped the deck of cards with Cinnamon Cider ink, moving in a clockwise pattern and then filling in the blank spots with the edges of the stamp.

I stamped the dice twice on Very Vanilla cardstock and cut them out with a 1 1/4" circle punch.  I did the same for the deck of cards and cut it out with a 1 3/4" circle punch.  The Cinnamon Cider punches were cut out with the Picture This circle die.

This was a quick way to die cut three perfect circles.

This card was quick and easy to make and didn't require a lot of work.  Hope you enjoyed this post and will come back again.

One For the Guys

Hi everyone.  Father's Day is just around the corner and I've been busy making a variety of Father's Day cards showcasing one of the masculine stamp sets from the new Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue called ""He's All That".

This 11-piece red rubber cling stamp set is definitely going to be a keeper.  These vintage images and versatile greetings are perfect for Father's Day, birthdays, and just because.

Product #159071.  STAMP SET ONLY

Product # 159079 THE BUNDLE

Here's My Card:

I wanted a bold layered look so the Freshly Made Sketch #537 was the perfect design.  Here's a look at the FMS sketch:

I used the "He's The Man" #159068 designer series paper for my card front layers and it really steals the show. In fact, while I had intended to do more stamping on this card, but the dsp pulled it together very quickly. I also used the Rustic Metallic Adhesive backed dots #159082 to add some manly glam.

I really enjoyed using the label dies from the set.  For the inside of the card I stamped the image on Whisper White and cut it out with the label die.  I then cut out a second label using the rectangular die and mounted the two together.

This Designer Paper coordinates so well and there is absolutely no waste.  And if you don't have the stamp set to add a sentiment, no worries as there are two pages of labels including the one in the picture that can be applied.  The bow tie was added with dimensionals to the base of the words and a small gem was added to the center.

Well that's it for today.  Thanks so much for dropping by.  I hope you enjoyed this card.

Happy Stamping!

Hats Off to Beating Cancer

I made a card this afternoon and I hope I never ever have to send it to someone I know. I'm sure you'll know why when I say the theme of the card is "Breast Cancer friendship and support".  I've had too many friends, relatives and acquaintances who've battled this horrible disease.

In my last post I featured the Hats Off Bundle and I mentioned that although this stamp and die set come off as masculine, they can also make up some pretty special feminine cards.

Here is my card:

  • I began by cutting and scoring the Basic Black card base.
  • I cut the Polished Pink Layer and before adhering it to the card base I die cut the ball cap and cancer ribbon from  the center part of the layer.
  • I ran my Polished Pink Blends over the cap edges and along the stitched lines to add some depth to the cap.
  • I used the linked small basic rhinestones strip along the cap brim.  From the Hats Off bundle I die cut the oval sentiment and insert and attached the small pink ribbon from the Artfully Aware dies.  The ball cap was added to the card with dimensionals.
  • I cut the Basic White layer, then stamped it with the large ribbon image from the Artfully Aware set in Momento Black ink. To give this layer a bit more texture I embossed it with the Tasteful Textiles Embossing Folder to give the background a little more texture.
  • I chose the sentiment "Be Strong, Be Brave - you've got this" which is part of the Many Messages Cling Stamp set because it's such a bold statement.  I love this bundle of sentiments as I can pre-stamp and die cut the sentiments ahead of time.
  • To finish off the card I added the Basic Rhinestones around the hat brim and a few scattered rhinestones and to the Basic White layer.  I added a small rhinestone to the center of the ribbon.
Love this sentiment from Many Messages #154510

  • For the inside card panel I stamped off the image of the two girls hugging once and then stamped to the center of the card.  In retrospect I should have stamped in Gray Granite or Smokey Slate for a softer image.  The sentiment was stamped full strength in Pink Polish and then the layer was adhered to the base.

Many Messages Stamp & Coordinating Die Bundle

Card Stock:    Basic Black (base), Polished Pink, Basic White

Ink:    Momento Black, Polished Pink and Versa Mark with Silver Embossing Powder

Accessories:  Dimensionals, Basic Rhinestones, Tasteful Textiles Embossing Folder

Card Base: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4" (Basic Black)

Layers:

1st layer - 5 1/4" x 4" Polished Pink.

2nd layer - 5" x 3 3/4" Basic White (stamp and emboss), Inside layer 5 /14" x 4" Basic White.

Note: This card can be made in any combination of colours and for any form of cancer support or other type of support.  It's just a case of changing up the hat and 1st layer colour and you have a totally different look.

Here's a Masculine Card I made for a challenge over the weekend where I've used the Hats Off stamp set and dies combined with Mountain Air.  The colours are muted and more masculine.

Like I said this becomes a totally different card by changing the background, sentiment and colours.  Although this particular card is earmarked for an outdoorsy kind of guy and an occasion such as Father's Day, a birthday or perhaps retirement event, it could easily be changed into a masculine support card by adding the ribbon to the hat brim and changing the sentiment to the one used above.

Hope you've enjoyed this card and will leave me a comment.

Masculine Cards for Father's Day

Have you looked at your calendar and wondered, "wow where has June gone", you're not alone.  Here we are at the half way mark and Father's Day is just a week away.  I always get requests from my friends for handmade Father's Day cards, so I've been working on some great masculine cards that would be perfect for that occasion, or for other masculine events like birthdays and retirement.

My motivation for the first card came from a new stamp and die set called the Hats Off Bundle.  You can find this on page 47 of Stampin' Ups! recently released Annual Catalogue.

The Hats Off Bundle (#158361) is comprised of a 15 piece photopolymer stamp set called Hats Off (#155483) and a 15 piece coordinating die set called the Hat Builder (#155964). These can be purchased individual or you can save 10% by buying the bundle.  However you purchase this set, I know you're going to love it.

Here's the first card I made with this bundle:

Sometimes you buy a stamp and die set and you wonder why you did.  Let me just say that the Hat's Off bundle did not disappoint, I am in love with it!  The ball cap is just the perfect size for a card front or back as you'll see in a later photo, but there are so many other things it could be used for.

The die cut can be used on it's own or you can stamp the cap and then die cut it.  Either way it looks awesome.  The stitching on the cap seams is really detailed, so you get a little bit of a 3-D look.

Directions:

Ink and Card Stock:    Cinnamon Cider, Misty Moonlight and Very Vanilla  card stock.  Misty Moonlight ink and blends used on the hat and sentiments inside and out.

Card Base:  8 1/2" x 5 1/2" card base from Misty Moonlight card stock.

Layers:  Very Vanilla 51/4" x 4" followed by 5 1/8" x 4 1/8" piece of Cinnamon Cider, that was embossed with the Tasteful Textiles 3-D Embossing Folder.

Embellishments:  I cut the hat from Very Vanilla card stock thinking that would look good on my card front .....wrong. It was way too light so instead of wasting this piece I coloured it with dark and light Misty Moonlight Stampin' Blends and then embossed it.  When I added the texture it made the hat look like it was suede.  Before adhering the hat to the card front I used my bone folder to round out the edges and then added dimensionals to the back of it.

There are nine difference logo type embellishments included in this stamp set that can be used on the hat brim.  I cut out the "Life is Great" using the coordinating dies from Cinnamon Cider card stock and stamped the sentiment in Misty Moonlight ink before adhering this piece to the hat brim.

Note:  The embellishment dies have two pieces and you can use them individual but they work best when fitted inside each other. The smaller piece doesn't cut out the card stock it just creates the stitching around the picture, while the larger one is the actual die cut.

To finish off the front of the card I stamped the sentiment "To The Guy That Wears Many Hats" on a small scrap of Very Vanilla with Misty Moonlight ink.  Using the new Tailor Made Tag dies  I cut three separate tags to coordinate with the card colours and attached them with a blue brad and dimensionals.

For my next project I decided to make some cards with Polo Shirts:

I recently saw a post on Frenchie Stamps blog showing some simple polo/golf shirts she made using the Handsomely Suited bundle.  I decided to try out her technique and I was amazed at how quickly these cards came together.  Here are the basic steps.

I used paper designs from the In Good Taste DSP #152494 pg 132 AC that were carried over from last year.  These photographic images of woven materials give a life like 3-dimensionals texture to these cards making them quite unique. As an alternative to these papers, you could create your polo shirt using any  of the In Color Designer Series papers such as the In Color 6 x 6 Neutrals paper packs on pg 134.

Directions:

Ink & Card Stock:  Cinnamon Cider, Misty Moonlight

Card Base:    4 1/4" x 11" scored at 5 1/2"

DSP Layer:    4 1/4" x 5 1/2"  - for full card or

                      4" x 5 1/4" - for shirt with border

Collar/Pocket: 2" x 3" piece of contrasting cardstock.  Die cut out the collar and pocket then emboss the collar with the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder.  Leave the pocket plain as you'll be stamping it.

Placket for Buttons:  3/4" x 5 1/2" piece of contrasting cardstock.  Die cut this piece and then cut it in half - you'll have a spare for another card.

Buttons:  I used Adhesive Sheets on the back of a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" piece of black cardstock for my buttons and ran it through the Cut & Emboss Machine a couple of times.

Inside of Card:  4" x 5 1/4" Very Vanilla Cardstock with a 3/4" piece of dsp from the DSP layer on the long side or across the bottom.  Stamp the greeting "A Happy Birthday to You" from the Handsomely Suited Stamp Set

Handsomely Suited Bundle

Well that's it for this week.  I will be posting more with these bundles over the coming week, so stay tuned.  Let me know if you like these cards and the instructions I've provided.

Nature's Beauty Masculine Thank You Card

After several days of rain and being forced to stay in doors, I enjoyed a round of golf last Wednesday at the Surrey Golf Course. It wasn't overly warm but the sun was out periodically and the winds were mild. As the day progressed it got a little cloudy, but nothing could take away from being outdoors with great friends and having fun.

After spending a day in the great outdoors, I managed to fit in some stamping time, and it was a no-brainer when it came to selecting a stamp for today's card. I chose Nature's Beauty a nine image cling rubber stamp by Stampin' Up! and I'm following along with Linda Callahan's great sketch at Freshly Made Sketches #457. *

Note:  As sometimes happens, life gets in the way and sadly my card was not linked to the FMS #457 challenge this week.  Regardless I hope you'll use the link and visit their site to look at all the great cards by the Design Team as well as the participants.  Awesome - some real inspiration.

Here's My Card:

The card I made is a masculine thank you card for a neighbor who gave me a hand with some work the other day.   I chose the deer as the main focal image and scattered some trees and grasses in the background.  It was stamped in Momento Black ink on a 3" x 5" piece of Whisper White card stock.  Very plain and simple.  I layered this on a 3 1/8" x 5 1/8" piece of gold foil.

The card base is a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Whisper White card stock, scored at 4 1/4".  I added a 5 1/4" x 4" layer of Basic Black. For the next layer I decided to stamp the  large tree image from Rooted in Nature in Momento Black Ink to create a background. This is not a large layer it measures 3 3/4' x 3 3/4", and so you don't really see a lot, but it seemed to tie everything together.

The sentiment "To Thank You For All You Do" is also from Rooted in Nature and I embossed it with gold Embossing Powder on a 1/2" strip of Basic Black card stock.  I fancied up the edges with the new Lovely Labels Pick a Punch.

Lovely Labels Pick a Punch #152883

The inside of the card is finished with a layer of Basic Black card stock that measures 5 1/4 x 3 3/4" and I added a strip of gold and black on the right hand side.  I wanted to write a thank you note on the inside panel so left it plain and didn't add a sentiment.

I hope you enjoyed today's card and take the time to leave me a comment.  I love to hearing from my viewers and getting your impressions of the cards and projects I make.

WWC #166 - Kath's Masculine Anything Goes Challenge

Where do the days and weeks go?  It's hard to believe that only a week ago we were celebrating my mom's 96th birthday and the family was all here to celebrate.  Honestly, this past week seemed to simply evaporate. Since my company left on Monday the rest of the days just blended one into another and here we are and it's Wednesday again.

We've also been having pretty nasty weather and everyone around me is complaining and wishing the rain and cold winds would "evaporate too".  I'm not letting the weather dampen my spirit though.  I guess I'm a bit like the old saying "when life gives you lemons.......... and I've managed to turn some of that gray dreariness into wonderful stamping adventures.  So far I'm not minding this unusual Spring weather a bit.

Kath is challenging us this week to create a card or project in line with our Masculine "Anything Goes" theme.

We'd love to have you play along.  There are so many talented stampers out there and we love to see your take on our weekly challenge.  Be sure to check out our Design Team's inspiration this week at the Watercooler because there's ton's of inspiration.  While you're there, be sure to check out our rules for entering your own creation.  It's easy and fun.  You'll find a Linksy at the bottom of the WWC166 post.  This challenge is open until 5:00pm  Mountain Time on Monday April 23rd, 2018.

Here's My Card:

This is my first time using the Truly Tailored Bundle from Stampin' Ups! Occasions catalogue, and I have to say I "love everything about it".  There just aren't enough great masculine sets around, so this one just knocks it out of the park for ease of use.  Whether it's the paper, the stamp images or the great Tailored Tag Punch, you can't beat this one.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets: Truly Tailored, Guy Greetings
Ink:  Early Espresso, Crumb Cake
Card Stock: Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla
DSP:  True Gentleman #145593
Accessories:  Paper Trimmer, Tailored Tag Punch, Small and Large Oval punches (R), Tom Bow Glue, Dimensionals, Detail Scissors.

Details:
This is a standard size Double Z- Fold card and folds to A2 size.  To assemble:

1.  Cut a 4 1/4 x 11 piece of Chocolate Chip for the card base.  Score at 2 1/4" and 5 1/2" and crease on score lines.

2.  To dress up the base cut Designer Paper as follows:
  • Cut a 4 x 5 1/4" piece of DSP for the large panel on the right, and
  • cut two 2 1/2" x 4" pieces of DSP for the front and inside panels.
  • Adhere all panels to the Chocolate Chip base with Tom Bow glue.
3.  For the smaller Z-Fold:

  • Cut a 3 1/2" x 8 12" piece of Chocolate Chip for the base.
  • Cut a 4" x 3 1/4" piece of DSP for the front left panel and two 1 7/8" x 3 1/4" pieces for the inside and back panels.  Adhere with Tom Bow Glue.
  • Cut a 3 3/4" x 3" piece of Very Vanilla for the largest panel, stamp the sentiment "Today is your Day....." in Early Espresso and add a 1/4" x 3 1/4" strip of dsp to the left side.  Adhere to DSP.
  • Cut a 1 3/4" piece of Very Vanilla and adhere to the inside panel.  Leave the last panel with just the DSP layer.
  • To attach the smaller Z-Fold to the larger one put sticky strip on the outside edges of the smaller Z-Fold.  Remove the protective sheet from the end panel and center and adhere it to the back panel of the larger Z-fold. Remove the protective strips from the front panel of the small Z-Fold cener on the front panel of the larger one and adhere.
  • After stamping the image "To a Classy Kind Of Guy" in Early Espresso on a scrap of Very Vanilla I used the Tailored Tag Punch to cut it out.  Easy peasy! To add some pizzazz I cut a second tag from Chocolate Chip and after fussy cutting around the edge of the Very Vanilla sentiment with my detailed scissors I adhered the two tags together with Dimensionals and glued them to the center bottom of this panel.  To add a little more dimension I stamped the comb portion of the sentiment again, cut it out and adhered with a small piece of Dimensionals over the original comb for a nice little pop.

  • I left the inside panel in Very Vanilla without any sentiment or design and added a small happy birthday sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set onto a scrap of  Very Vanilla.  I punched this out with the old Small Ovals punch and layered it onto a Large Ovals that had been cut from Chocolate Chip - miss those two punches!  To finish off this tag I stamped the small bow tie (so cute) in Crumb Cake and added it to the tag with Dimensionals.

  • I love Z-fold cards, but I never find they have enough room to write your personal greeting on unless you use a light neutral for the base of the small Z-fold.  Since I didn't do that I added a 4" x 5 1/4" piece ov Very Vanilla to the large panel on the back of the card.  I've left mine plain but you could easily stamp another sentiment here.

Thank you for visiting my blog today and checking out my  card.  I really enjoyed using this stamp set and this truly amazing paper.  I hope you'll leave me a comment and let me know how you like the Z-Fold card.

Happy Stamping!
