Monochromatic Birthday Card FMS #688

This weeks Freshly Made Sketch challenge is hosted by Jen B.

Here's My Card:

I'm a big fan of Lost Lagoon so I looked through my stash for papers in that colour.  I remembered the Timeless Plaid 6x6 paper pack had some Lost Lagoon designs and because these papers are double-sided it was really easy to find a coordinating piece of dsp to go with this sketch design.

For the center focal I added the big birdhouse from Country Birdhouse.  I was able to use the same dsp for the front panel of the birdhouse by paper piecing it.

Supplies:

Stamps & Dies:

  • Country Birdhouse Stamps - sentiment "happy birthday".
  • Country Birdhouse Dies - birdhouse, flowers, bird
  • Birthday Sentiment inside card from "See You Later" Sale-a-bration stamp set(R)
Cardstock & DSP:
  • Whisper White
    • 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" card base scored at 4 1/4".
    • Inside Matte 3 5/8" x 5 1/4"
    • 2 scraps for sentiment and trim on birdhouse
  • Lost Lagoon
    • 5 1/4 x 2" for top matte on card front
    • 5 1/4" x 1 3/4" for matte on bottom card front
  • Timeless Plaid DSP (R)
    • 5 1/8" x 1 7/8"
    • 5 1/8" x 1 5/8"
    • 2" x 2" scrap for front of birdhouse
Ink:
  • Lost Lagoon ink and blends
  • Momento Black
Accessories:
  • self adhesive backed lost lagoon gems
  • dimensionals

Well that's it for this week.  I hope you enjoyed this card, and will leave me a comment before you go.

This week's Freshly Made sketch was hosted by Jen.  Its a very simple layout and quite quick todo.  This would be a great sketch for anyone wanting to try doing a challenge.

FMS # 684 by Jen

Here's My Card:

I just got some new Stampin' Up Supplies including a 12 x 12 paper called Celebratory Sips that I bought because of the beverage designs.  When I opened the paper package I fell in love with a floral patterned paper that had a straight olive green backing.  This paper was perfect for the card I made.

Sending Smiles Note of Thanks

This week I am pairing up two challenges.  The first is a sketch challenge from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge  created by Michelle and digitalized by Brandi.

The second challenge is from "The Paper Players" challenge blog, and the premise is to combine something old with something new.

Across Canada there is the possibility of strike action by Canada Post employees sometime in mid-May, so I'm busy trying to get all my  birthday cards completed and mailed before that occurs.  I also wanted to make some note cards for folks I haven't been in touch with for a while so both of these challenges will work perfectly for my themes.  I'm starting with the note cards.

Here's My Card:

Quite a while ago I purchased a beautiful stamp set from Stampin' Up! called Sending Smiles. It's retired now, but it's still a favourite on my list because of all the wonderful sentiments, the florals and the coordinating dies.

I'm pairing the Sending Smiles floral design and sentiment with a brand new background stamp set called Elements of Text, one of Stampin' Ups! current while supplies last Online Exclusives.

I wanted these cards to be easy mailers and clean and simple so I didn't die cut and add an overlay of daisies for the note cards.

Supplies:
Stamps and Dies:
  • Sending Smiles #158701 (R)
  • Elements of Text #164774 (Online Exclusive)
Cardstock:
  • Basic White card base - 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"
  • Basic White Matte - 3 1/2" x 3 3/4"
  • Pecan Pie Matte - 3 7/8" x 5 1/8"
  • Granny Apple Green Matte 3 3/4" x 5"
Ink:
  • Crushed Curry
  • Granny Apple Green
  • Pecan Pie
Accessories:
  • Adhesive Backed Shiny Sequins #16348

Thanks for dropping by today and I hope you'll come back again.  I'd love to hear your thoughts on this card.

In Sympathy for Vancouver's Fillopino Community - FMS#683

Last night in Vancouver BC Canada a most terrible and senseless tragedy took the lives of 11 people and injured many more who were attending festivities during the Lapu-Lapu Filipino festival. A 30 year old Vancouver man plowed his car into these innocents, committing such a heinous act that words cannot even describe.

I'm using today's sketch to design a sympathy card for all those affected by last night's loss. Obviously I can't make or send a card to all the families, first responders and others affected by this tragedy, but hopefully by posting my card and my message of condolence I can express my sadness, grief and offer my prayers for healing to those who need it.

Freshly Made Sketches

Here's My Card:

Supplies:

Stamps and Dies:
  • Textured Notes #165548 - basket bottom and leaves
  • Country Flowers #163405 - sentiment "With heartfelt sympathy"
  • In the Moment #157987 - sentiment "You're In My Thoughts"

Cardstock and DSP:

  • Basic Beige 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4" for card base
    • scraps for sentiment on card front, basket and leaves
  • Early Espresso 3 1/4" x 5 1/4" front panel
    • 1" x 5 1/4" strip for bottom inside detail
  • Pecan Pie 4" x 5 1/4" for front matte
  • DSP - Woven Textures 12 x 12 #165560
    • Cut 3" x 5" strip of DSP cut this piece in half at 2 1/2" flip one side over and adhere to early espresso panel.
    • 3/4" x 5"  strip of DSP cut in half, flip one side over adhere two panels to 1" x 5 1/4" early espresso panel on inside bottom of card.
Ink and Blends:
  • Tuxedo Momento Black
  • Pecan Pie
Accessories:
  • 2" circle punch for basket
  • Dimensionals
  • Adhesive
  • Gold Sparkle Gems (R)

The detail in the Textured Notes distinktive stamps is amazingly crisp.  The trick to stamping with distinktives is to not over saturate the surface with ink.  You'll get a clearer image by reinking and stamping a few times.

Well that's it for today's card.  Thank you for stopping by and having a look at my card.  Appreciate it.

Zoo Crew Birthday Wishes - AHSC #624

This has been such a busy week, with very little "me time" or "stamp time". Yesterday I was cleaning and busy getting ready for dinner guests but it was such a dismal rainy day, I didn't mind puttering about and cooking.

I made one of my favourite meals of Mississippi Pot Roast with Yorkshire Pudding, yellow mashed potatoes, mixed veggies and a Caesar Salad.  We finished off the meal with a tart lemon meringue pie for dessert.  What a treat and especially on a rainy day!
Today I have some time for card making, so I'm using the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #624 as my inspiration. This challenge ends on Sunday April 6th Eastern Standard Time.    Here's the sketch:

Here's My Card:
By moving the card stock strips over to the opposite side of the sketch I was able to have the fox in my focal point riding his motorbike in the right direction. The fox was cut from one of my favourite designer papers called Zoo Crew.  What fun! To add some interest I drew the little road squiggles and puffs of exhaust with a black marker, and I glued on the little daisy embellishments.

Supplies:

Stamps and Dies:
  • Paper Pumpkin March 25 Kit (Happy Birthday)
  • Deckled Rectangles Dies (R) #159173
  • Stitched Oval Dies (R)
  • Unknown Birthday Greeting Stamp - Stampin' Up!
Cardstock and DSP:
  • Zoo Crew 12 x 12 DSP #161304 (Fox on Motorbike)
  • Whisper White card base 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"
    • 3 3/4" x 4 3/4" matte for card front
    • 3 3/4" x 5" matte for inside
    • 31/2" " x 3 1/2" scrap for stitched oval
  • Peach Pie 4 x 5 1/4" for front and inside mattes.  Cut 2.
  • 1/4" x 3 3/4" strips for design element in Peach Pie, Petunia Pop, Shy Shamrock and Pretty in Pink
Ink:
  • Petunia Pop
  • Blends
    • Light Smokey Slate
    • Petunia Pop
  • Fine Black Marker
Accessories:
  • Loose Daisy Embellishments (R)
  • Dimensionals
What a fun card to make and a terrific way to use up your scraps. Whenever I see the characters from the Zoo Crew paper I smile, they are so sweet.

Well that's it for today.  I hope you enjoyed this card and will leave me a comment.  See you next time.......

FMS#680 - Daisy Daydream Thank you Card

It's time for this Wednesday's Freshly Made Sketch  hosted by Narelle Farrugi:

I've been preoccupied this week with the beautiful March 2025 Paper Pumpkin kit.  If you love daisies you'll understand what I mean when I say this kit is to die for!  This kit is filled with artistically designed paper, coordinating envelopes daisy and honeycomb ephemera and accessories like ink, dimensionals, and so much more.  Oh I almost forgot to mention in true Paper Pumpkin style, this spring kit contains two wonderfully coordinated stamp sets.

While I like the three card styles demonstrated in the kit, I prefer to just play with all the bits and bobs and see what I can come up with.  As a result, I thought it might be fun to use the Freshly Made Sketches design #680 to create an alternative card from this kit.

Here's My Card:

Supplies:

Stamp Set and Dies:
  • Daisy Daydream Paper Pumpkin stamps
  • Everyday Arches #164623 and Everyday Dies #164269
Cardstock and DSP:
  • Blue cardstock Daisy Daydream Paper Pumpkin kit
    • I cut the original card  base in two at 4" x 5 1/4" on both sides of the base to use as mattes and discarded the center strip that was left.
    • For the front matte I cut an arch  that measures 4 7/8" x 3 1/2".
    • For the inside matte I used the 4" x 5 1/4" matte.
  • Whisper White card base 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4".
    • cut one matte for inside measuring 3 7/8" x 5" and stamp sentiment, flower and honeycomb for design
  • Lost Lagoon matte 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" first matte layer on front
  • Lemon Lolly matte 4" x 5 1/4" embossed with with Hexagon Dynamic Embossing folder (R) #143231
I forgot once again to splatter my background paper before attaching the ephemera but improvised with a white gel pen and a black marker.  I loved the "honeycomb" effect on the Lemon Lolly paper when I embossed it.

Ink:
  • Mossey Meadow
  • Crushed Curry
  • White Gel Pen
  • Black Marker
Accessories:
  • Dimensionals
  • Daisy Ephemera and Bubble Bee
  • Hexagon Dynamic EF #143231 (R) - for embossing stack #1 + two #2 plates with Die Cut and Emboss or Big Shot machines
  • Gold Glimmer gems (r)
I hope you liked today's card.  It was very simple and fun to make.  I was really impressed with the large arched stamp from Everyday Arches.  It was fun to use.  I also was impressed with the Ephemera included in the Paper Pumpkin kit, especially that little bee, it looked so sweet.  Please leave me a comment if you liked this card, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
