Cut, Stack and Shuffle Swap Cards for #OnStage 2022

I'm so fortunate to live on the West Coast and to be able to participate in this year's On Stage Presentation that was held at the Pacific National Exhibition Forum on November 12th, 2022 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Our trip from the Fraser Valley into Vancouver was filled with chatter and excitement as we anticipated all things Stampin' Up! and we weren't disappointed.  What a wonderful day and opportunity to get together with Stampin' Up! friends, old and new!

Kathleen Nessel, Ethel Detemple, Debby Evoy, Me and Carmen Smith

Four at our table were celebrating milestone years with Stampin' Up! so we loved the walk across the stage and sharing our stories.  Two of our new Stampin' Up!
Demos were celebrating Quick Start and becoming new demos!  Yeah!

New demo friends Carmen and Heather who recently joined Debby Evoy's team in the Okanagan. We were so excited and happy to welcome them to their first Stampin' Up! OnStage event.

My walk of pride for 15 years with Stampin' Up!

One of the best parts of becoming a Stampin' Up! demonstrator has been the enduring friendships and the camaraderie I share not only with demos who live in my area but with those who live across the world.  Stampin' Up! really has done a lot by hosting these type of gatherings to bring us together with common goals, sharing and caring and lasting friendships.

Here is a look at my swap cards:
Swapping cards with other demos is an old tradition that brings great joy and anticipation.  In past years I've made as many as 80 swap cards and participated in several different sways.  However because of time constraints, I was only able to make seventeen, but I put a lot of love and attention to detail in those cards and I hope they'll bring a spark of creativity to those who received them.

Most demonstrators make just 5 1/4" x 4" card fronts for their swaps.  Because I was making so few swaps I decided to make mine extra special and included a full card and envelope in the swap package.

The purpose of my swap cards was to highlight the Cut, Stack and Shuffle technique, and feature products from the Tea Boutique Collection on pages 12 and 13 of the Annual Catalogue.

How I made my cards:

How to Stack, Cut, and Shuffle to make four separate cards.

Card Bases:
I began with the Tea Boutique Cards and Envelopes for my  my card base.
You get twenty 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card bases and matching envelopes in this beautifully coordinated set.  Adhere mats #1 and #2 to the card base following the

Layering Mat #1:  Cut four mats in coordinating colours with the DSP to 4 x 5  1/4" set aside.

Layering Mat (Mat #2 in the picture):  Cut four 3 3/4" x 5" Whisper White Mats and set aside until shuffle step.
Stack:
Begin by selecting 4 coordinating patterns of DSP. Pay attention to whether the pattern on the selected DSP are all running in the same direction, and then make your cuts to work with the pattern. Remember that the finished layer can be adhered to your card either horizontally or vertically, so pay attention to whether the pattern on your dsp selection is running in the same direction before making any cuts.  Once your designs are chosen stack them with the patterns running in the same direction.

Cut:
  • Take your stack of papers and begin trimming all 4 layers at one time.
  • Start on the long side of the stack and cut in half at 3".  You'll now have a stack of top and bottom pieces.
  • Take the top portion of the stack and on the short side cut at 1 3/4".  You will now have 2 stacks each measuring 1 3/4" x 3".  Set those beside each other.
  • Cut the remaining bottom stack into two pieces beginning at 2 1/2" on the short side.  Your two bottom stacks will measure 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" and 1" x 1 3/4".  Group these two stacks below the top ones.
  • Starting at the left side of the top layer of dsp pieces of think of them as being numbered 1,2, 3 and 4.
Shuffle:
Place the Whisper White mat layers beside your DSP stack and begin the shuffle:
  • Move piece #1 onto the top left hand side of the top mat.
  • Move the top of stack #2 to the bottom of the stack and take the new #2 piece and position it on the white mat.
  • Move the top two pieces of stack #4 to the bottom of that stack and take the new top piece and move it to its position on the white mat.
  • To finish move the  top piece of stack #3 and the next two layers below it and move them to the bottom of stack #3.  Move the new top of stack #3 to the white mat.
  • You have now completed the first shuffle and can adhere these dsp pieces to the white layer.
  • For the 2nd, 3rd and 4th card mats you simply move your dsp pieces to the mat layers, they do not need reshuffling because they're already sorted into different patterns.
  • Finish your cards by deciding if you're going to make horizontal or vertical cards, and then adhere the mats accordingly.
If my instructions are confusing, you may want to search on Google or Youtube for a Stack, Cut and Shuffle technique video.  When you find one, please note that the size of paper and the measurements for the cuts may be different to what I've noted above, however the shuffle technique will always be the same as my instructions.

Embellishing:
For the decorative images and sentiment I used the Cup of Tea stamp set and Teacup die bundle.

Each card was made exactly the same with only the colours changed for the tea cup, the sentiment and the little flowers and time for tea tags.  The leaves were stamped with Garden Green, Old Olive and Parakeet Party inks.

I hope you enjoyed this post and that my details on how to do the Cut, Stack and Shuffle technique were helpful.  If you live in Canada and want to become a Stampin' Up! demonstrator why not join my team, I'd love to have you.

Until next time..........

Happy Stamping!

Glitzy Glam Birthday Wishes - FMS#560

Update November 9, 2022  Winners FMS #560

Wow, I'm doing the happy dance.  I just discovered that my Glitz & Glam card for Freshly Made Sketches #560 was picked by Amy from the Clean Team as one of the Princesses. Click on this link to see who the Queen of Clean and the other Princesses were.  So many awesome cards.   Thanks so much FMS and Amy.  You made my week!

Freshly Made Sketches #560

Happy Monday, hope your week ahead is full of good times.

FMS#560
Jen Mitchell's sketch design for the Freshly Made Sketches challenge this week was really timely as I'd been asked to design a "glitzy glam" black, white and gold milestone birthday card.

Here's My Card:

I started with a Whisper White 5" x 10" card base scored at 5" and added a 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" layer of gold glimmer paper. Before adhering this glimmer paper I used the beautiful oval layering dies from the Fitting Florets collection to cut the large oval from the center.

For the next layer I cut a 4 3/4 x 4 3/4 piece of paper from the Silver and Gold designer series papers (retired Sale-A-Bration paper).  Then I cut this into 2 pieces measuring 2" x 4 3/4" and 2 1/2" x 4 3/4".  These were adhered to the glimmer paper leaving a 1/4" gap between the two.

I cut another oval frame from Whisper White card stock and used the center oval for my sentiment.  I stamped the "For a Special Person on a Special Day" sentiment from the Framed Florets stamp set, in Momento Black Ink.  This oval was attached to the center of the glimmer oval with dimensionals.

I also stamped off five flowers using the small and larger floral stamp on a scrap of Whisper White.  these flowers were arranged around the left side of the oval and leaves and a floral sprig were die cut from Basic Black and added to the grouping.  To finish off the card front I added five of the Gold Adhesive Backed Swirls embellishments that came in the Framed Florets collection to the flower centers.  Love them!

For the inside of the card I cut a 4 7/8" square of Whisper White and stamped it with one of the birthday sentiments from the Framed Florets stamp set. There was a 4 3/4" x 1 1/4" strip of the Silver and Gold dsp left over from the front cut, so I adhered that along the bottom of the mat.  Love it!
For the first time ever Stampin' Up! has named the coordinating dies the same as the stamp set.  So, in this bundle you will get the Framed Florets stamp set and the Framed Florets Dies.  I'm super excited about that, as it makes finding your dies in your stash a whole lot easier.  Way to go Stampin' Up!

I couldn't help editing this photo so I could see what the same card would look like in silver, white and black............... and yes it would be beautiful too!

I hope you enjoyed this card.  It was simple, quick and easy to make.

Happy Stamping!

Rocky Raccoon meets FMSC #559

I really like having a sketch challenge to give me inspiration for creating a card, so I thought I'd play along with Jen Timko over at Freshly Made Sketches challenge #559.

Here's My Card:
As I've mentioned before, we live on the edge of the Discovery Trail forest in Abbotsford. With the drought this summer we've had a lot of animals accessing our property looking for water and food and recently we've had recurring visits from three raccoons.  They aren't shy and visit during the day and late evening drinking water from the base of my plant pots and scooping up grubs along the concrete edge.

This threesome is probably a mother and her two juveniles and they aren't afraid of us. So far they haven't touched or broken anything, on their visits. For our part, we don't feed them, handle or encourage them in any way, we just watch and enjoy their brief visits.
All Bundled Up 8 piece red rubber cling stamp set from the July -  December Holiday Mini catalogue.

When I was deciding what elements to use for this sketch challenge I was influenced by these raccoons and to use the sweet little raccoon image in the All Bundled Up stamp set.   Just look at this little "Rocky Raccoon", too cute!

Stamp Sets:

  • All Bundled Up Stamp Set
  • Checks and Dots Embossing Folder for Circle

  • Highland Heather - 4" x 5 1/4" mat for card front, 3 1/4" scrap for circle mat on card front, Scrap for the snowflake die cut.
  • Gorgeous Grape - small scrap for snowflake die cut
  • Specialty Paper:  3 3/4" x 4" piece of Silver and Gold DSP (retired from  July Sale-A-Bration 2022) for mat layer on card front,

All Bundled Up for a Paper Craft Crew Challenge - #490

Today I'm created another Christmas card for my stash using a vertical sketch challenge from the Paper Craft  Crew Challenge, #490.

Here Is My Card:

I'm using a stamp set called All Bundled Up #159824 from Stampin' Ups! July to December 2022 Mini Catalogue.

The forest animals dressed in their fuzzy hats and winter scarves really caught my eye  but it was the moose that captured my heart.  I'm a Canadian, so trust me when I say any moose picture whether it's of a real animal or just a caricature are such iconic symbols of our homeland. This one literally made me stop in my tracks because of his size, and sweet face and I could envision all kinds of cards and projects made with this image.

Along with the raccoon, bunny and cute little song bird, this 8 piece cling stamp set also has three pretty cool winter sentiments which I've used on both the inside and outsides of my cards. It doesn't get any better than that!

Before colouring the moose, I spent some time looking through my stash of Christmas designer papers (dsp).  I knew I had some with snowflakes and thought that would make a perfect winter backdrop for this image.  I chose a piece from last year's selection that showcases a variety of white snowflakes on a blue and mauve background. These non-traditional colours at set the tone for my card.

I started with an 8 1/2 x 11 Whisper White card base. Next I added a 5 3/8" x 4 1/8" mat of Fresh Freesia cardstock, followed by a 5 1/4" x 4" Whisper White mat. The dsp mat measures 3 3/4" x 5" and the 1 3/4" strip of dsp comes from the recently retired Sale-A-Bration papers and is a white background with silver dots.

There aren't any coordinating dies for this stamp set, so I used my small detail scissors to fussy cut the moose.  I coloured it with my dark and light Crumb Cake Stamping Blends and used a combo of light and dark Fresh Freesia Blends for his hat and scarf. When I  fussy cut an image I leave a small margin of white around the figure.  For this image I coloured in the margin with a Gray Granite blend so it didn't stand out.

The three inch Fresh Freesia circle was die cut and embossed with the Whimsical Wonderland embossing folder (pg. 39 Mini Catalogue) and I added a Whisper White snowflake cut from the Celebrations Tag Dies (pg. 67 Mini Catalogue).

Whimsical Wonderland Embossing Folder

Celebrate Tags Dies coordinate with the Celebrate with Tags Stamp set.

I chose the Merry Wishes sentiment from the Window Wishes (pg. 36 Mini Catalogue) for this card because I wanted a smaller sentiment to balance out the placement on this card. I stamped the sentiment in Gorgeous Grape ink so it would stand out. The die used to cut it out is from the Celebrate Tags Die set.

Although you can't see it in these pictures, I added a bit of glimmer with Wink of Stella to  the beautiful snowflake and to those pearly white teeth on the moose. I also added a bit to the pom pom on  the hat and the hooves.

I hope you enjoyed this quick and easy card.  I am such a traditionalist and normally do my cards in reds and greens, so this colour scheme isn't something I would normally do.  Having said that it's really charming and I quite like it.  How about you, let me know if you dabble with non-traditional colours in your Christmas projects.  I'd love to know what your favourite non-traditional colour scheme is.

Happy Stamping!
