2 Awesome Stamp Club Cards

I'm not big on night driving but I chose to attend Cheryl LeFore's monthly stamp club last night, and I'm so happy I did.  We made two awesome cards which I'm delighted to share with you, using products from the new Occasions Catalogue.

Cheryl attended Stampin' Ups! Leadership meeting last month in Houston Texas and brought back some wonderful sample cards which she shared with us and some new techniques.

Water Colour Card:
The first card we made featured two water colour techniques.  To begin with, we used an acryllic block to create a backdrop.   This was achieved by inking up Clear Block "C" with Pool Party ink and then spritzing the block with water, before dragging the block half way down a 2 by 4 1/4" strip of Whisper White cardstock.   This process was repeated with Pistachio Pudding ink down the remaining strip of cardstock.  You have to make sure the cardstock is thoroughly dry before you add it to the card base.

Here you can see the blend of Pool Party and Pistachio Pudding inks in the background behind the flower.  Note:  This is a technique I would like to practice on some scrap paper to get the proper flow of ink to paper, before doing it on my main card. Why? Because I had a little bit of difficulty getting the second block to glide down the paper without sticking.  I think this was because I didn't spritz enough water on the block.  Regardless, I liked the outcome.
The second watercolour technique was colouring the flower with Aqua Painters. The flower image from the "Happy Watercolour" stamp set, was stamped in Black Stazon Ink on Watercolour paper and allowed to dry before we began the watercolouring process.
Happy Watercolor Stamp Set #133188(w) $29.95 or #133191(cm) $21.95. Eight piece two-step stamp set.  Perfect for watercolouring.

Using Aqua Painters, we coloured the flower with Crisp Cantaloupe, Starfruit and Pistachio Pudding re-inkers. The Aqua Painters allow you to diffuse the colour of the ink so you can achieve different shades in your painting.

Aqua Painter #103954 Price: $20.95   This wonderful tool is versatile and easy to use, and works great with Stampin' Up! Watercolor Pencils, Watercolor Wonder Crayons, Classic Stampin' Pads, and other mediums to pull and blend colors. Two-painters included per package in 12 mm and 15 mm brush sizes. Portable and easy to use.  The reservoir holds 8 cc of liquid

Once we coloured the flower, we fussy cut around the image and mounted it with dimensionals to the background piece.  A piece of Pool Party Seam binding was tied around the strip before the lace edge was added.
Finishing Touches Framelits add a perfect finish to your cards.  Item #127010 in the Idea Book and Catalogue.

The Pool Party layer of the card was embossed with the new Decorative Dots Embossing Folder.  I love the soft look this achieves and it coordinates so well with the beautiful Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper.

The Pistachio Pudding lace edge was achieved with the Finishing Touches Edgelits.  Tip: When using these edgelits it's recommended to use wax paper or parchment paper as a shim so all the little window pieces pop out when the piece is run through the Big Shot machine.

Look at the beautiful  finish on the inside of this card. The Whisper White insert piece measures 3 3/4 x 5.  The flower image was stamped in Crisp Cantaloupe and then only the bottom 1 1/2" of the insert was run through the Big Shot with the Decorative Dots embossing folder.

I really enjoyed making this card.  It's quick and easy to assemble and I had a lot of fun with the watercolouring.

During Sale-A-Bration you can earn the Decorative Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder for free by simply placing a $60.00 order (before shipping and handling).

Our second card for the evening is called "You Make Me Happy", and was made with the Perfect Pennants stamp set and Banner Framelit Dies.

I was simply blown away by the look of this card and how genuinely easy it was to assemble.  In fact, there was no waste in any of the products we used.
The base of this card is made with a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of Strawberry Slush card stock that is scored at 5 1/2" resulting in a top fold card.  The first layer is made with a piece of basic black cardstock, followed by a layer of Bermuda Bay card stock that was embossed with the new Arrows Textured Embossing folder, from the Occasions catalogue.

To be truthful, I wasn't overly impressed with this folder when I saw it in the new catalogue.  However, I changed my mind after using it.  This design adds a really nice texture to the cardstock and it's got a real masculine look to it.  You can bet I'll be adding this embossing folder to my wish list.

The large and medium sized banners were cut out of
Kaleidoscope Designer Series paper with the new Banner's Framelit Dies.  They look perfect!  The sentiment "You Make Me Happy" is from the Perfect Pennants stamp set.

Note:
When overlapping the banners it's easier if you adhere a small piece of card stock to the back of the banners to reinforce them.  In this case we added a 1" x 2 7/8" scrap of whisper white.  To finish the card three stars were stamped in Crushed Curry ink and cut out with scissors.  Basic Rhinestones were added to the centers and a piece of 1/8" Bermuda Bay Taffeta Ribbon was tied around the banner piece before it was adhered to the card face. Dimensionals were used to mount the stars and the banner.
The Banners Framelit Dies can be purchased as a bundle with the Perfect Pennants stamp set.  See page 27 of the Occasions Catalogue.  Item # 13416(clear) $41.50 or #134815 (wood) $48.50.  This is a 15% savings off the regular price.
This 10 piece stamp set comes  in wood or  clear mount and is available in English, Spanish or French languages.

Just looking at this cute card face makes me happy! How about you?  This is just such a great color combo and design.

Oh, remember when I said that we used all the supplies to make this card?   Well I wasn't kidding, we actually did.  The cute decoration on the inside panel of the card was made using the two triangular pieces of DSP left over from cutting out the banners.  A 1/4" x 3 14" strip of basic black card stock offsets them.

Here's the finished card and envelope.  What fun I had with this one!  I hope you like both cards, and leave me a comment on which one is your favourite. I'd love to hear from you.

Fancy Fold Birthday Card

I was recently inspired to CAS a card made by Linda Bauwin.  I watched her video which showed an extremely easy way to create a WOW card.  Check out Linda's original card  and video tutorial here.

Here is my version:

Supplies:

Stamp Sets:
Stippled Blossoms 2-step stampin set
Petite Pairs

Card Stock:
Melon Mambo cardstock
Basic Black cardstock
Whisper White Cardstock

Ink:
Basic Black
Melon Mambo
Strawberry Slush
Pear Pizzazz
Old Olive

Accessories:
Circle Framelits
Window Framelits
Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder
Adhesive
Trimmer
Big Shot

How It's Made:
1.  For base cut a piece of Melon Mambo to 4 1/4 x 9 1/4"

2.  Score base at 2 1/4, 31/2, 5 1/2 and 6 1/2 and fold back on crease lines so you have a box on the front side.

3.  Select the large window frame die and fit it over the box shape on the front of the card.  Make sure edges at top, bottom and sides are all even before running the die through the Big Shot.  This step creates the lovely bevelled edges on the side of the card.
Tip:   You can number your framelits from the center to the outer edge with a Scripto Marker.  This makes it easier to identify which framelit you want to use.  In this example the largest window frame would be #6.
4.  Using your Perfect Polka Dots or Embossing Folder of your choice, emboss the side edges of the card to the crease line.

5.  For front layers cut a 4 x 4" piece of Basic Black cardstock and  the 3rd frame in the windows framelit set die cut this piece. Center and adhere to the front panel.

6.  For the stamped layer cut a 3 x 3 inch piece of Whisper White and die cut with the 3" circle from the Circle framelits. Adhere to the black window frame. Note:  If you prefer to do your stamping before you cut this piece out go ahead, as it sometimes makes it easier to center the stamped image.

7.  Stamp the large rose solid image from Stippled Blossoms in Strawberry Slush ink on the Whisper White piece.  Using a Stamp-a-ma-jig center the lined rose image over the solid image and stamp in Melon Mambo.  I created a mask for the rose and then stamped two leaves from the set at the bottom of the rose.  Stamp "Best Wishes" from the Petite Pairs set in Basic Black ink.

8.  For the back panels cut a Basic Black piece measuring 3 15/15 x 1 15/16" for the bottom layer.  Cut a piece of Whisper White measuring 3 14/16 x 1 14/16" and stamp with the two small flowers from the Stippled Blossom set. Note: I created a mask for this flower two so I could layer them and add the leaves more easily.  They were stamped using the Stamp-a-ma-jig as in step 7 above.  The sentiment "Happy Birthday Wishes" was stamped in Basic Black ink.

I hope you enjoyed today's birthday card and the links to Linda's video.  I'll be making more cards with this design and trying other framelits to see what I can come up with.  I told you she inspired me!  Thanks for dropping by.

Birthday Cards To Share

My birthday is coming up later this week and when I opened my mail today I was blessed with two hand made cards.  What a joy to receive these beautiful cards, they made me smile all day.  I think you'll smile too when you see them.

The first card is from my friend Phyllis, who is always so thoughtful to remember my special day. She always adds extra special touches to her cards which I love.  For this birthday card Phyllis chose the Fabulous You 3 piece stamp set found on page 38 of the Annual IB&C.

Fabulous You #131995 Price: $17.95(w) $14.95(cm)
This lovely three-piece stamp set is perfect for friendship, birthdays, wedding showers, and more. The flower centers on the shoes and the butterfly can be dressed up using Rhinestone or Pearl Basic Jewels. Makes a great gift for your favorite shoe lover!

I really like how Phyllis coloured only portions of the shoe with markers and then added the pearls. If you look closely at the pictures you'll notice there are white and green basic pearls.   I'm guessing that she used the markers to make the old olive pearls........... what a great touch!

The three scalloped Whisper White layers were embossed with the Delicate Designs Embossing Folders and then cut out with the coordinating Large Scallop Edgelits.
Delicate Designs page 190 Annual Catalogue Item #127023 $10.95
The Large Scallop Edgelit #127019 $9.95
The inside of the card features two of the butterflies from the Fabulous You Stamp set stamped on Soft Sky cardstock and mounted with dimensionals on two scalloped circles punched from Soft Sky DSP.  These little butterflies are so cute with the tiny basic pearls mounted on them.

The second card was from my dear sister Heather.  She created a beautiful pastel card by combining Pool Party, Crisp Cantaloupe and Whisper White layers and a brand new stamp set from the Occasions Catalogue called People Like You.   She'd also made a matching envelope with her new Envelope Punch Board.  I was so excited to see this card, as this stamp set was one of her latest acquisitions and she was thrilled with it.  I can see why, this card is awesome!

The card base is in Pool Party cardstock and measures 81/2 x 5 1/2.  The first layer is a piece of 5 1/4 x 4" Whisper White card stock that was embossed with the Beautifully Baroque embossing folder.  Heather used a corner rounder to trim each of the corners on this piece.  A 1 1/2" x 5 1/4" piece of Pool Party cardstock that has been embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder was added just shy of center for the second layer.
Beautiful Baroque Embossing Folder Item # 130917 $9.95

The third layer of this card is a 2 1/2 x 4 1/4" piece of Whisper White cardstock that has had the corners rounded and sponged off with Pool Party ink.  On this piece Heather stamped the People Like You image in Versa Mark ink and heat embossed it with Pool Party Embossing Powder.  This technique gives a beautiful shimmery effect to the image.

Besides the beautiful flower image the People Like You has another great feature.  The sentiment part of the stamp image coordinates with the Decorative Label punch.  Heather again stamped her image in Versa Mark and Crisp Cantaloupe Ink on a scrap of Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock and heat set it with  Clear Embossing Powder.  After punching out the sentiment she adhered it to the card with dimensionals.
Pool Party Stampin' Emboss Powder #129398 Price: $5.95 can be found on page 167 of the Annual IB&C along with 14 other beautiful colours.  Just use your Use your favorite stamp, powder, VersaMark Pad, and the Heat Tool. 1/2 oz.
Heather combined images from the People Like You and the Bring on the Cake stamp sets for the inside of the card, and stamped them in Crisp Cantaloupe Ink.
The love sentiment is from the Holiday catalogue which is now retired is cut from Crisp Cantaloupe cardstock and glued on using a 2-way glue pen.

People Like You # 133215 Price: $15.95  The People Like You Single Stamp says it all: "The world is a better place because of beautiful people like you." Coordinates with the Decorative Label Punch and the Watercolor Wonder Suite. This limited-time stamp is only available from January 3 through May 31, 2014, so order yours today! Available only in wood-mount.

Bring On The Cake #128490 Price: $47.95(w) or #121958 (cm) $33.95.

You can't beat the number and variety of birthday feel-good greetings waiting to surprise and inspire your creativity packed in this box. Set Quantity: 13

Thanks to both Phyllis and Heather for remembering my birthday and for their beautiful birthday cards.  I love them both!
