Pool Party Monochromatic Birthday Card - FMS #650

This week's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches was designed by Judy at Jar Full of Joy   I wanted to make a monochromatic birthday card using some Stampin' Up! designer series paper and a stamp and die set I hadn't tried out yet, so these  three rectangles in the sketch became the perfect layout.

Click here to see the Design Team and Participants creations and inspiration.

HERE'S MY CARD:

I love this Subtles Designer paper.  It comes in a 6 x 6 package and includes all the colours in the Subtles color line.  The sentiment "Time to Celebrate" is from the Round We Go stamp set by Stampin' Up!

I'm  glad I bought this set as it has quite a good variety of sentiments and the fonts are a wonderful mashup of styles.

I haven't created or used a lolly on my cards for some time.  The die in the Round We Go coordinating die set is really easy to use and cuts and puts in the tiny fold lines.  To make this lolly I needed two strips of designer paper that I joined together using Tom Bow.  I've seen other folks using a heat gun, but with the DSP it didn't seem necessary.

I wanted to keep the inside of the card relatively dressy but simply by adding a layer of pool party beneath the white mat.  Normally I would cut this layer using  card stock but I decided to use a piece of the beautiful DSP. I think it looks great.  The font for the Happy Birthday sentiment is quite cool.  It's also from the Round We Go Stamp Set.

I pulled out an old retired birthday stamp set from Stampin' Up! called Picture Perfect Birthday, to stamp the little party horn to mount on the focal piece.  I love those stamps and have never been able to part with them because they add such a fun feeling to a celebration.  To make sure the little horn stood out from the background color I stamped it using Coastal Cabana Ink.  The beautiful opalescent sequins bring the focal point to life.

Coffee With Friends AHSC #591

After an extremely busy week it was fun to sit down and try out this week's
sketch design by Michelle at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.  This uncomplicated design was just what I needed, and it didn't take me long to figure out what I wanted to make with it.

Click here to see the Design Team and Participants cards

HERE'S MY CARD:

One of my guilty pleasures in life is a good cup of coffee and the only thing better is sharing time with a friend over a cup of coffee.  I loved the sentiment "this one's on me" and thought it would be the perfect saying on a note card to invite a friend to join me "on the house".

I flipped this sketch sideways and added an additional mat using the Designer Series Paper on the card front.

I fussy cut 2 coffee mugs from one of the designer series papers for the focal point popping up the Lost Lagoon colored mug with dimensionals. I also used dimensionals to support the stitched circle and nested it over top of some linen thread that was laid down in a figure eight.

SUPPLIES:

Stamp and Die Sets:

  • Latte Love #163455 stamp set and
  • A Little Latte Dies

Card Stock and Designer Series Paper:

  • Whisper White 8 1/2 x 5 1/2" card based scored and folded at 4 1/4". A 3" x 3" piece for stitched circle for focal point
  • 3 3/4" x 5" piece of Pecan Pie embossed
  • A Little Latte DSP #163453 for front mat 4" x 5 1/4" and a 2 3/4" x 4 1/4" piece for front mat.  1/4" x  5" strip for inside card. DSP is Calypso Coral with white patterned coffee beans in the design.  Two coffee cups were cut for the focal point.

Inks:

  • Lost Lagoon

Accessories:

  • Basic 3-D Embossing Folder with large dots
  • Adhesive Backed Swirled Dots #163464
  • Linen Thread

Peace on Earth Challenge #

It's hard making Christmas cards when it's hot outside but having a mood board such as this one from Peace On Earth's #69 sketch challenge really inspired me to get creative.  When trying to decide on my winter themed card I was drawn to two of the elements in the mood board.  The first was the white horse with the jaunty Santa hat and the second was the white chenille looking trees.

Click here to see the Design Team and Participants Cards

HERE IS MY CARD:

I liked the little pops of red shown in the mood board.  I added a layer of Cherry Cobbler cardstock to the card front followed by a piece of Whisper White that I embossed with the Evergreen Forest 3D embossing folder.  If I was making this card again, I think I'd spritz the Whisper White layer with water prior to embossing to make the trees a little bolder or emboss a second piece and cut around the trees and then layer them over the base layer of trees with dimensionals.

I wanted to showcase that red Santa hat on the horse, but couldn't find any hats that small, and then I had the aha moment realizing that the sleigh riders hat would fit the horse too.  So I quickly re stamped just that portion of the stamp with the hat in it and fussy cut it out.  Before mounting it on the horse's head I coloured it with a with Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Blend.  Finally, I added a sled runner that I cut out with the coordinating die cuts from a scrap of silver foil.

For the inside of the card I added the sentiment "Wishing You a Season of Cheer which is from the Horse and Sleigh stamp set stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink.  The smaller image of the sled is from the Christmas Barn set and is stamped with Momento Tuxedo Black ink.

SUPPLIES:

Stamp Sets:

  • Horse and Sleigh Retired Stampin' Up! #162119
  • Christmas Barn Retired Stampin; Up! #159747
Cardstock:
  • 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of Whisper White for card base
  • 3 7/8" x 51/8" piece of Whisper White for front panel
  • 3 3/4" x 5" piece Whisper White for inside panel
  • 5 1/4" x 4" Cherry Cobbler for front layer
  • 5" x 3 7/8" piece for inside layer
  • Scrap of Silver Foil for sled runner die cut

  • Cherry Cobbler
  • Cherry Cobbler Dark Stampin' Blends

Thanks for dropping by and checking out my very simple card for the Peace On Earth #69 Card challenge.  This card could be stepped up very easily by adding sequins or a dusting of sparkle across the trees.  I hope you liked it.  I'd love to hear your comments.

Bi-Plane Fun Masculine Birthday Card - Freshly Made Sketches #648

Happy Saturday and welcome to my blog.  Summer is whizzing by and we continue to have hot dry weather.  Some days, I just don't feel like leaving the house or doing anything outside. Today is one of those days, so I'm happily heading to my craft room to get some crafting time in.  Join me......

The Abbotsford Airshow is happening this weekend and all day long I can hear the planes roaring overhead.  Since planes are on my brain, I thought it would be a great opportunity to use Narelle's sketch #648 from Freshly Made Sketches for today's card.   Here's the sketch:

Christmas Classic - Blocking Design #FMS647

Hi Everyone!  If you're a BC Resident happy BC Day long weekend!  I've been watching the Summer Olympics out of France this past week, and I'm just awed by all the elite athletes representing Canada in the games!  How exciting!

I'm also excited to share a card I made this week using the latest Freshly Made Sketches challenge sketch.  Karren is the sketch hostess this week at Freshly Made Sketches  so a big shout out to her.  Her concept for this sketch was "color blocking".

Click here to see the FMS Design Team Samples

HERE'S MY CARD:

Today's card is another Christmas design using retired products from Stampin' Up! My biggest decision when I started to assemble the pieces was whether I needed a gap between the paper mats or to make them flush.  I decided having a white border around and between the paper cuts would tie them together.  I also decided to do a landscape mode rather than portrait.

Instead of using a square or rectangle for the focal point on this card I chose to use layered circles.  I started with a 2 3/4" Shaded Spruce stitched circle followed by a Whisper White 2 1/4" circle.   Because I didn't want to stamp a sentiment or design in the background I cut a 2" circle from patterned paper and used that as a backdrop for the sleigh.

SUPPLIES:

Stamp Sets:

  • Window Wishes #159751 (sentiment)
  • Christmas Barn #159747 (sleigh)

Cardstock:

  • 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" Shaded Spruce scored at 4 1/4" for base.  Layout is landscape.
  • 3" x 3" scrap of Shaded Spruce for stitched circle
  • One 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Whisper White for inside panel and a scrap for 2" stitched circle layer and sentiment strip
  • Scrap Cherry Cobbler
Designer Series Paper:
  • Classic Christmas 6 x 6 #155969 (R)
Accessories:
  • Classic Label Punch
  • Layered Stitched Circle dies
  • Dimensionals
  • Adhesive Back Sequins Trio - Opaque White #161205
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Tombow Adhesive glue

Well thanks for dropping by.  I hope you liked this sketch challenge by Freshly Made Sketches.  If you haven't participated in a sketch challenge or like this design and just want to make a card there's still time to do so.  If you like my rendition, leave me a comment, I love to hear what caught your eye or how this card made you feel.  Cheers and have a good week.

August Hostess Code

Welcome August!

August just slid in quietly and I don't know about you, but I'm not ready for it!  Wow, where has the summer gone?  It's time for me to try and change my focus and do the things I love to do in the summer before it's gone too!

New Hostess Code for the month of August!

Every paper crafter needs stuff, but not everyone can afford to place orders over $200 or host workshops to accumulate sales, so offering my monthly hostess code for smaller orders, is my way of saying "thanks for supporting my business".

If you're planning on placing an August order valued from $60 to $199.00 (before shipping and tax) just add my August Hostess Code #NMGJYXFZ at the end of your order to receive a small token of my appreciation and a thank you card.

The benefits of shopping at my online store and adding my monthly Hostess Code are:
  • You never have to go to a workshop or party.
  • If you need help with your product choices I'm always here to help.
  • You get to decide when to place your order and my online store is available 24/7.
  • You can order online exclusive products that aren't found in the catalogues.
  • Your new products are shipped directly to your front door and generally arrive within 5-7 days of placing your online order.
  • After you've placed your order and applied the current hostess code you'll receive a free surprise gift from me and thank you card generally within 2-3 weeks.
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS

If you don't already have an online Stampin' Up! account with me, you'll need to set one up.  It's fast and easy.  Locate the "shopping cart symbol" in the top right hand menu line on my web page.  It looks like this:

Just provide the information requested, choose me as your demonstrator, and once your account is set up you can begin to order. Add items you want to order by clicking on the Shopping Cart.  To receive for my free gift and thank you card, any order you place that's valued between $60 to $199.00 (before shipping, tax and handling) to qualify.

Before you finalize your Shopping Cart order at the checkout you must add my hostess code for the month into the circled area marked "ADD HOSTESS CODE" (see blue circled area in above snapshot).  Please note:  I can no longer add the hostess code for shoppers after their order has been submitted.  So remember, if you haven't added the current month's hostess code to your order before hitting the checkout button, it won't qualify for my free gift.

Stampin' Rewards:  If your order is over $200 you'll automatically receive Stampin' Rewards at the checkout based on your order total and will be prompted to enter products adding up to the qualifying amount.

NOTE: My August  Hostess Code promo closes at noon on August 30th, 2024. Your free gift and thank you card will be sent to you by the 3rd week in September.  Thank you.
