Sweet Strawberries - Birthday Cards

How do you like your Strawberries?  I like mine fresh picked, sliced and served in a chilled bowl with a touch of  milk and a sprinkling of sugar.  Weird I know, but that's how I've always loved them.

Stampin' Up! has a beautiful Strawberry stamp and coordinating builder punch bundle that's featured on page 44 of the January to June Mini catalogue.  This is fast becoming one of my favourites. I really like the images and sentiments in this set which could be used for many occasions.

Sweet Strawberry Bundle

Here are some cards I've enjoyed making and sending out for my February and March birthday cards.  Enjoy!

Since COVID 19 changed all our lives, I find I'm sending out more and more cards by snail mail and so I'm making them in batches instead of one card at a time.  I loved the design of the next cards because they are quick and easy to make in an assembly line fashion.

Assembly Details:

First of all a disclaimer, because I don't want you to be disappointed.  The beautiful Berry Delightful DSP you see featured on these cards is no longer available, as it was part of this year's Sale-a-bration promo.  But these cards can be made with any other designer paper or with your own One Sheet Wonders.

  • For these cards I began with by cutting ten pieces of 8/12" x 5 1/2" Whisper White card stock and scoring it at 4 1/4" for the card bases.
  • Next I cut 5  5 1/4" x 4" mats from Poppy Parade  and 5 from Garden Green.
  • Then cut ten pieces of designer paper into 3 3/4" x 5" mats and then cut each of these at 2 1/2" for top and bottom layers.  Adhere a top and bottom to the mat.
  • Before adhering the mat to the card base, cut ten 6 1/2" strips of white cotton ribbon to hide the joint line of the dsp. Adhere each end firmly on the back of the card stock mat.
  • Cut ten additional pieces of ribbon for the bows and adhere with glue dots.
  • Add a sentiment (see note below).
  • Cut ten panels of Whisper White 5 1/4" x 4" for the inside of the card.
I like to make all my sentiments separate from the cards and then I can choose which one works for the occasion.  So I made stacks of sentiments for the card fronts, by die-cutting stitched circles, ovals, and square pieces of Whisper White card stock, stamping sentiments including strawberries and leaf images, adding embellishments like rhinestones and then matting them on coordinating card stocks.
When I'm working with a designer paper I like to make batches of sentiments that I set aside that are pre-stamped with a variety of sentiments and in all kinds of shapes, as you can see from this picture.  That way I'm always ready to make a quick card when the need calls.

I pre-cut ten Whisper White mats for the inside of the card that measured 5 1/4" x 4".  And while I had the stamps out for the sentiments and design I stamped these inside panels.  I used left over dsp pieces to add strips to these panels.

Hope you enjoyed this selection of cards made with the Sweet Strawberry  bundle.  They were truly made with love and I enjoyed sending them out.

Happy Stamping!

Happy Easter Pop and Flip Cards

Happy Easter weekend! My mom's birthday was yesterday and she would have been 99 years old, but sadly she passed away last June.  Normally our family gathers at my home on Easter Sunday to celebrate her birthday, enjoy a feast and each other's company but this year we were once again in COVID lock down and following the social distancing policies.

This was my mom last year on her 98th birthday.  Because of COVID we weren't allowed inside her residence and had to sing happy birthday from the other side of the fence.  This was the last time she was allowed outside before she passed away in June.

On Easter Sunday this year, my oldest brother, my sister, my husband and I visited my parent's grave site to bring some flowers and spend some time together and honour my mom's birthday.

My sister planted Snowdrops in the fall and we had a delightful surprise yesterday because they were finally in bloom.  I brought some Forsythia that's growing wild behind our place.  It was one of my mom's favourite Spring flowers so I know she would have been happy with my little bouquet.

Here Are My Easter Cards:

Okay, on a lighter note, I made a small selection of cards for friends and family this year using one of my favourite but retired Stampin' Up! Easter stamp sets called Everybunny.  There are some stamp sets, that you just can't part with and this is one of them.

Pop and Flip cards seem to be all the rage right now, and after watching  Dawn Griffith's Youtube video I decided to try out this fancy fold technique for my Easter cards.  I knew the Everybunny set was perfect in size for making these cards.

Details and Supplies:

Stamp Sets:  Everybunny (retired), Painted Poppies (retiring soon)

Ink:  Momento Tuxedo Black, Stampin' Blends - Granny Apple Green, Highland Heather, Balmy Blue, Daffodil Delight, So Saffron, Crumb Cake, Cinnamon Cider, Pirouette Pink (retired), Flirty Flamingo,

Card Base: Whisper White card stock - 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4", plus a
3" x 3" scrap for die cut circle.

DSP Layer: Retired Gingham Designer Series Paper in Granny Apple Green, Highland Heather, Balmy Blue, Grapefruit Grove and Daffodil Delight - measuring 5 1/4" x 4".  Apply glue only around the edges of this layer and adhere to the card base.

Dies: Stitched Shapes Circle Dies - two largest dies. Largest to cut circle from card base and DSP and Medium die to cut a circle from Whisper White scrap.  Note:  While I used circle dies, you aren't limited to this shape.  You could use any layering dies such as squares, ovals or even rectangles.  Also you could do the same concept on a top fold, side-fold or slim line card base.

Mechanism: One 3" x 4" piece of cardstock to match the base colour scored at 1", 2" and 3". One 2 1/4" x 3/4" piece of same card stock scored at 1 1/4".

Stitched Shapes Dies #152323 comes with 12 dies with the largest one measuring  3 1/4" x 2 3/8".  For this card I used the 2 dies in center bottom row.

I lined up the largest circle die in the center of the card and cut through both the card base and the designer series paper at the same time.

The large Whisper White circle was used as a base for the bunny image and I set aside the gingham circle for another project.  I cut the medium sized circle from the 3" x 3" Whisper White scrap piece and stamped my image in Momento Black  ink. I used a Sizzix scalloped circle die to cut a layer from Balmy Blue and adhered the circles together.

The adorable little bunnies were so much fun to colour using my Stampin' Blends.  The grass below the bunny was the small splotch from Painted Poppies stamp set, stamped in Granny Apple Green ink.

For the inside of the cards I stamped the sentiment "Happy Easter everybunny" from the Everybunny stamp set.  I also stamped the "egg flower" pot and coloured it to correspond with the colour of the DSP and the bunny image on the pop up.

Painted Poppies retiring soon.  The splotches and solid stamps in this set are great for creating backgrounds.

I have to say I had a lot of fun and simply loved making these cards. The card itself has clean simple lines, and those that received it were delighted with the pop up feature.

On the whole, I found the Pop and Flip fancy fold was quick and easy to create. I didn't need a whole lot of supplies or card stock so it's economical for doing a large batch of cards.  Another plus is that unless you add rhinestones, ribbon or other accessories to your finished Pop and Flip card, it folds flat and extra postage isn't required.  I'm definitely adding the instructions for the Pop and Flip card to my template file.

I hope you've enjoyed this selection of Easter cards and the Pop and Flip card details.  I loved every single one of these cards.  How about you?  I'd love to hear your thoughts.

It's All About the Suit!

When I opened Stampin' Ups! January to June Mini Catalogue way back in January, I was thrilled to see the Well Suited Suite Collection on pages 66 and 67.

I knew this stamp set and coordinating products would be a perfect addition to my collection of masculine card making tools, so I purchased the whole suite which includes the Handsomely Suited cling stamp set, the Suit and Tie Dies and Well Suited Designer Series Paper and Twine.

I wasn't disappointed when my order arrived, because I know this well coordinated suite is going to be perfect for Father's Day cards, masculine birthday cards, scrapbook pages and more, for a long time to come.

Here are a couple of cards that I made:

The addition of the stitching on the plaquet and the pocket really makes these details stand out. I chose to just die cut the Bow Tie without first stamping it on to the designer paper and I think it looks okay.  Next time I'll do the stamping and cutting, and see which one I prefer.  To give the Bow Tie some height over the collar, I popped it up with Dimensionals.

Both the Bow Tie and Long Tie can be assembled easily and are very attractive on their own for dressing the front or inside of the card.  I love the large size and the variety of DSP in the

I'm totally in love with this Handsomely Suited Stamp set and Coordinating Dies.  This navy blue suite really shows off the plaquet on the crisp Whisper White shirt.  I actually scored the suit part working along every 1" from the center of the card to the left and right side of the cardstock to give some definition to the suiting.  I scored the pocket to correspond.  The two little points on the handkerchief were made when I cut two pointy ends on the long tie with the dies and then overlapped the dsp to look like the double tips on a hanky.  Not complicated to do and it adds such a fun touch to the suit front.

My husband used to have a suit back in the day that was just like this one.  His favourite tie to go with it was in shades of Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape and Black.  This brings back fond memories.  With this suite card I fluffed up the edges of the lapels and the shirt collar a bit to make it look more realistic. I also chose to colour in the neck part with an Ivory Stampin' Blend marker after seeing France Martin doing that on one of her posts.  I think it adds a touch of realism to the card.

I kept the inside of this card plain and it has a real masculine feeling to it.  I've added a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of Basic Grey cardstock for the layer and the Whisper White layer measures 5" x 3 3/4".

The small rectangle in the die set is for the pocket edge and it can be used on it's own like this example, or it can actually be popped up on the pocket die cut to give a bit more dimension.  I've cut the hanky out with the pocket die and trimmed it down so it looks like it's coming out of the suit pocket for this example

Well that's all I have to share with you today.  I hope you like these "handsome suits".  I haven't finished playing with this set yet, I know there's so much more that can be done with it.  If you'd like to see more cards in different variations,
leave me a comment following this post.  I'd love to hear from you.
