Clean and Simple Masculine Card

I took inspiration from Linda Callahan's Freshly Made Sketch Challenge #476 for my clean and simple masculine card today.

FMS#476

It's been a while since I purchased the Handsomely Suited stamp set and coordinating Designer Series Paper called Well Suited.  This seemed like the perfect opportunity to do something masculine.

Here's My Card:

Details:

Base:            8 1/2" x 5 1/2" Night of Navy cardstock scored at 4 1/4"
Layer One:    5 1/4" x 4"  Very Vanilla  - cut 2 and use one for inside layer
Layer Two:    5" x 3 3/4" Cajun Craze embossed with the Subtle 3D EF
DSP:             5" x 3 3/4" diagonal striped design

The Handsomely Suited stamp set and coordinating Suit and Tie dies are part of the Well Suited Suite on pages 66 and 67 of Stampin' Up!s January to June Mini catalogue.  They can be purchased as a bundle (15640) or as separate stamps and dies.  They can also be purchased as part of the Well Suited Collection, which includes the stamp set, dies, Well Suited Designer Series paper and Coordinating Twine (155983).  The stamp set is great for masculine birthdays, father's day and so much more and can be purchased in either English or French versions.

The Well Suited Designer Series Paper (154562) has 12 sheets: 2 each of 6 double sided papers.  These beautiful masculine patterns coordinate with Basic Black, Basic Grey, Cajun Craze, Night of Navy, Pacific Point, Poppy Parade and Smokey Slate colours.

This is the double sided patterned paper I chose for this card.  The diagonal stripes were perfect for completing the striped portion of the sketch challenge outline.

The Subtle 3-D Embossing Folder is one of the best purchases I think I've made in the past year.  It never lets me down when I want to add just that "little something" to my card without going overboard.

There are six sentiments in this very masculine stamp set and I like them all.  I chose this one because I new I could stamp it in both Cajun Craze and Night of Navy inks and merge the two stamped images into one by cutting across the center using the lines on the image.  The two pieces were glued together and then mounted onto a Night of Navy scalloped edged circle. This piece was adhered to the Cajun Craze circle with dimensionals, and then adhered to the scalloped edged Night of Navy circle.

Luckily I had two small Cajun Craze Pop Dots of in my stash that I added to either side of the sentiment.

For the time being I haven't stamped a sentiment on the inside layer of this card.  Why?  Well I'm not sure what occasion I want to use it for.  It's a versatile design and while the outside sentiment says "To One of the World's Greatest Dads", this doesn't limit the use to just a father's day card.  This card could also work for a father's birthday or even a thank you from a daughter or son.

So while the sentiment is missing from this inside layer, I took the opportunity to use up some of the left over designer paper and decorative piece in the bottom  corner.

I'm not sure if you can see the rough texture of this Cajun Craze layer but it took away the flat look of coloured card stock.

For the striped portion of the card I simple cut a 5" x 3 3/4" piece of dsp and then used my trimmer to angle cut along the lines.  I like the boldness of the lines  and provides the masculine look I was going for.

Well that's it for today's challenge.  I hope you liked it and will stop by to leave me a comment.  Cheers and have a great week everyone!

Hey Chick Birthday Waterfall Card

A tour of my yard this morning revealed that Spring is definitely on it's way.  Despite a few frosty mornings this week, I spyed three hardy clumps of snowdrops and a patch of hellebore in bloom in my front flower beds. If it warms up a bit more before the weekend, I think I'll plant some primroses to add some colour to the beds.

Snowdrops are known as the "harbinger" of Spring.

Red Racer Hellebore also known as Lenten or  Easter Rose

Speaking of Spring things, have you seen all the "Spring Chicken" cards that have been appearing on Pinterest and Youtube sites?  They feature two Stampin' Up! early release stamp and die bundles called Hey Chick and Hey Birthday Chick
What fun!

The Hey Chick Stamp Set was originally released during the 2017 Sale-a-bration promotion and proved to be one of the most popular stamp sets that year. It is very seldom that Stampin' Up! will release a stamp set but from all the demonstrator feedback they received they've done just that. Not only have they re-released Hey Chick as a 7 piece cling stamp set but they've also paired it with 19 coordinating Chick Dies. You can purchase them from my On-line store as a Hey Chick Bundle. or if you already have the Hey Chick stamp set from 2017 you can purchase the dies separately.

And, as if that's not enough fun, Stampin' Up! also released a brand new stamp set and dies called Hey Birthday Chick in the January to June mini catalogue. Even more fun chubby chickens and great dies!  Once again the stamps and dies can be purchased separately or as a bundle.  I have both sets now and believe me I'm planning to have lots of fun with them.

The Hey Birthday Chick Bundle which is available in French and English includes 9 Hey Birthday Chick Stamps and 11 Birthday Chick Dies. Whether you're planning a birthday bash or embellishing a scrap book page, you'll find this set full of celebratory images and phrases as well as quirky line art chicks, a celebratory bow, garland, and even a picket fence. My favourite is the Happy Birthday die cut, which I know I'll be using on a lot of my cards.

Here's a quick video to show how easy it is to work with the Hey Chick and Hey Birthday Chick products.
Today I want to share a Waterfall Card I made with a combination of stamps and dies from both of these bundles.

A Waterfall Card is a fancy fold that features a 9 1/2" x 2" card stock mechanism that sits on the front of the card base. The mechanism is folded in half and fitted under an anchoring bar. The front of the mechanism is scored at four intervals and on each score line a square with a stamped image is adhered usually in a picture sequence from top to bottom score line.

On the inside or base of the mechanism there is room for a message that remains hidden until a pull tab or ribbon at the bottom is pulled forward.  When the tab is pulled each of the squares magically begin to flip revealing the next square from top to bottom and finally the hidden message at the base.

For this card I began with an Early Espresso card base that measures 8 1/2 x 5 1/2" and is scored at 4 1/4".  The wood grained layer measures 5 1/4" x 4" and is from the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper.

Here you can see the four stacking layers.  The little chick at the bottom of the stack is my pull tab.  I cut out two small ovals from the wood grained paper and glued them together for the tab.  The little chick was die cut from Daffodil Delight cardstock and adhered to the tab.

For the top square I began by stamping the Wired clear mount background stamp image to the Crumb Cake cardstock in Early Espresso ink. I stamped this chick on Whisper White card stock and coloured her with Melon Mango Stampin' Blends before die cutting out the image.  To make the chick's chest stand out, I applied  heat and stick powder and iridescent glitter which really made the blended colours pop.

The Wired Background stamp can be laid flat, set on an acrylic block, or mounted on a stamperatus platform when transferring your inked image.

This is the second square and features the little picket fence die cut in Early Espresso card stock.  I stamped a nice little grassy area beneath the fence using a stamp from By The Dock in Crumb Cake along the bottom of the square. The sentiment was stamped in Early Espresso and cut it out with a small retired oval punch.

The third square features a cute little birthday chick and the "Let's Celebrate You" sentiment stamped in Momento black ink.  I used the confetti stamp on the top part of the square and and the ground in Crumb Cake ink.  The little chick was coloured with Mango Melody, Smoke Slate, Pumpkin Pie and Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Blend Markers.

The fourth square features the die cut "happy birthday" cut from Cherry Cobbler card stock.  Love, love, love this little die cut!   The chick on this square was fussy cut from the large chick with the birthday balloons image and coloured with blends.

For the final bottom panel, I stamped the chick with the balloon and die cut it along with an extra balloon.  The sky and the ground were added with sponge daubers.  The hen is coloured with Cinnamon Cider, Soft Suede and
Cherry Cobbler Blends.

Here's a view of the inside of the card which features the cutest and my favourite chick from both bundles. I just love this image and the sweet little birthday cupcake.

This was a fun card to make and doesn't take too long.  I enjoyed colouring all the chicks and found it very relaxing.  I hope over the coming weeks to post more cards using these two wonderful bundles.  If you're interested in purchasing them, I hope you'll drop by my Online store.  Until next time....

FMS475 Sketch Challenge

I decided to start March off with a challenge, so chose sketch #475 from the Freshly Made Sketches challenge blog site.

This fun sketch chosen by design team member Jackie Southas is a classic "threes" challenge.  That means that you can put anything you want on your design as long as it has three of something and the card is clean and simple.

Speaking of threes, I also really liked the three colour CAS Colours & Sketches Challenge #409.  I think these three colours are fun and really compliment each other. Let me know if you think so too or play along with the challenge which doesn't close until 6:00 pm EST  Monday March 8, 2021.

Here's My Card:

This birthday card is way outside my comfort zone. The design is very "plain" and simple, not something I do well or often.  Usually my cards have more layers but I threw all that out the window when I decided to make this card.

I chose to flip the sketch outline so that my three panels would be vertical on the layer rather than horizontal. Stampin' Ups! bubble caption die from the Special Day set has been niggling at me for some time now, and I thought what a perfect opportunity to use this probably somewhat overlooked die cut.

The Special Day Die set coordinates with the Special Someone 23 piece Photopolymer Stamp set which I used for the inside of the card.  I've highlighted the caption die.  How cute is that?

I pulled out some scraps of Calypso Coral, Granny Apple Green and Terracotta Tile and stamped each with a sentiment from the Special Someone stamp set.  They were stamped with Versa Mark ink and heat set with White Embossing Powder. The three captions were  lined up on the card layer and mounted with Dimensionals.   The top caption is Calypso Coral and the bottom one with the Happy Birthday sentiment is the Terracotta tile.

The card base is a standard 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" Whisper White with a 5 1/8" x 3 7/8" layer of Calypso Coral card stock.  The second layer was cut from a 3 3/4" x 5" piece of Whisper White card stock.  I used the 2nd largest of the Stitched With Whimsey dies to add a whimsical stitched design around the edge of the card.

These dies create die-cut frames that are anything but square. The irregular edges look like they were cut freehand and have cute decorative stitching. They're perfect for framing sentiments on handmade cards, scrapbook pages, and other paper crafts.

For the inside of the card I stamped the super adorable raccoon and balloon from the Special Someone stamp set.  The first layer of the two-step raccoon was stamped with Early Espresso ink and the second layer with Crumb Cake.  The first layer of the balloon was stamped with Calypso Coral and the 2nd with Terracotta Tile inks.  I repeated the caption on Granny Apple Green card stock.

The Special Day stamp set has 23 photopolymer images.  The 2-step stamps line up beautifully to create very detailed images.  One of my favourites this year for creating cute cards.

I splattered the front and inside of the card with some Terracotta Tile ink, using a toothbrush.  It didn't quite give me the effect I was hoping for so I added some small stars in coordinating colours to add a little more interest.

Note:  If you're a fan of Terracotta Tile like I am, don't forget that it will be retiring soon as it's one of the five Incolours from the 2019-2021 sales period.
2019-2021 In Colours  Now's the time to stock up on the ink pads, cardstock, re-inkers and blends before the retiring list is released in a week or so, otherwise you might not be able to replenish your stock.

I hope you like today's card. Let me know if you like this design...... do you ever make cards that aren't within your comfort zone?  I'd love to hear from you because receiving your feedback really makes my day.
