September Mixup - Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop

What signals one of my most favourite times of the year? Well, for me the first signs are the leaves starting to turn, the weather's getting a bit chillier at night, and the kids are back in school.  Yep, FALL is officially here and it's time to start thinking about all the seasonal celebrations ahead.  

This weekend I've joined the Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop design team to  celebrate a "September Mixup".  Our hop is running from tonight through  the 19th of September and is offering some really creative ways of using products from both the new and annual catalogues. 

We have 15 terrific gals participating and showing off their talents so be sure to follow the hop and leave some love along the way! Halloween Gift Bags - Howl-o-ween Good Times!
We don't get many kids on Halloween night anymore, so for those 5 or 6 that brave the elements to haunt my front door, I love to have some special treat bags on hand.  

Supplies:

The Howl-o-ween Treat Stamp Set which comes in wood or clear mount and the Boo to You Framelit Dies are featured on page 49 of the catalogue.  They can be bought individually or you can save 15% by purchasing them as a bundle. 

I love this cute little 4" x 1 1/2" gift bag.  It's simple, very quick to make and decorates easily.  For this bag I started with a 12 x 6" piece of the Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper. If you love Halloween Paper, this set of design papers is a real winner.  Each design and the colour mix are very special.

I used a Hello Honey marker for the owl's nose and a Blackberry Bliss Marker to enhance some of the feather details on the owl's body. I punched out two small circles with the Itty Bitty Punch set from Black Glimmer paper to mount the google eyes on.  Although they don't show up very well in this photo, the wavy feathers on the owl's chest were coloured with dazzling details that I added a bit of Tangello Twist re-inker to. I used two of the Label Framelits from lots of Labels to die cut the two label tags that the owl is mounted on.  I embossed the smaller label with the Bo Ho Chic embossing folder and the larger one is cut from Gold Glimmer paper.  They are mounted to the bag with dimensionals.

 My Second Bag:

Here is the second bag which showcases the Skull and Crossbones from the Howl-oween Treat stamp set.  I layered the stamped images on two labels cut out with the Lots of Labels Framelit Dies.  The Blackberry Bliss label was embossed with the now retired "Spider Web" TIEF.  The other label was cut from Gold Glimmer Paper.  I stamped the super cute little spider from this stamp set in  Tuxedo Black ink and then punched out a piece of Black Glimmer paper with the circle punch from the Itty Bitty Accents punch set and glued it onto its back with a dimensional.  Two rhinestones coloured with a black sharpie were added to the skull's eye sockets.  The "FaBOOlous" sentiment is from the Six Sayings Hostess stamp set.  I fussy cut out the wording and added dazzling details to make it glimmer. 

 Directions for the Bag:
1.  Cut 12 x 6" piece of Designer Series Paper or Card Stock of choice.
2.  Score on long side at 4", 5 1/2", 9 1/2", and 11"
3.  Turn DSP to short side and score at 4 1/2".
4.  Cut from the bottom along score lines to the 4 1/2" score line.  Fold on score lines and trim off small rectangle in bottom right hand corner of bag.
5.  Assemble bag with Sticky Strip.  Fold so small tabs are on the inside of the bag bottom and there is a large tab on the bottom.  You only need to apply sticky strip or glue to the side seam and the bottom of the bag.  
6.  Pinch the sides of the bag together towards the top, like a lunch sack.  
7.  Make a handle area by punch through both thicknesses with either a Word Window or a large oval punch.
 
Embellished Ornament:
Do you ever look at a stamp set or dies in a magazine or catalogue and it sucks the breath right out of you?  Well that's what happened to me when I turned to page 15 in the Holiday Catalogue and saw the Embellished Ornament stamp set and coordinating Delicate Ornament Thinlet Dies.  I fell in love with them, and they quickly went to the top of my wish list.  Here's what I've made with them so far:

I pride myself on finishing the insides of my cards to mirror the exterior.  When I finished this card, I laughed because the inside could actually be the outside it turned out so pretty. I owe that to the Delicate Ornament Thinlet die that I used to cut out this precious bauble.  These are pretty intricate dies but I use a cardboard and wax paper shim when I run these dies through my big shot and I find they cut like butter on card stock, glimmer and foil papers.  

I stamped two additional ornament images and fussy cut the flower from the center of both.  These were mounted with dimensionals on the original ornament and a basic rhinestone was added to the center.  You might think that the shiny circles on the ornament were achieved with rhinestones, but think again.  I actually cut the 1/8" circles from Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper using a punch and then glued them on to each of the spots on the ornament.  I cut the point off a toothpick and used that to apply the glue to the back of the dots and then add them to the ornament.

Usually I do three projects for these hops, and although I have one in the works I unfortunately didn't get the time I'd anticipated to finish it.  But don't worry, rather than rush and botch the project I'm going to finish it later this week and then I'll share it with you under a separate post. Wacky Watercooler July Blog Hop

Welcome to the July Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop.  You're in for a treat!  We have 13 hoppers sharing their wonderful projects, which will include a Christmas in July theme, a CASED project and a project using a Punch.  Hope you'll visit all the sites and leave some comments and encouragement. 

This is a circular blog hop so if you continue along you'll eventually get back to where you started.  This blog hop runs from today July 16th through Saturday July 18th, so visit as many times as you wish and let your friends know it's happening.

Christmas in July 

Are you counting off the days until Christmas yet?  I know I am.  For my featured "Christmas in July" project I chose to use a stamp from the Merry Everything stamp set as my focal point.  This is a great little stamp set that was carried over from last year.

I started with a standard A2 Bermuda Bay card base followed by a Silver Foil mat.  I hated to waste that beautiful foil sheet by hiding it under another layer, so instead punched out my two trees from the center.  I embossed the White mat and Silver Foil trees with the Bo Ho Chic TIEF.  This embossing folder is quickly becoming one of my favourites. 

I kept the inside of the card pretty clean and simple by just stamping and embossing one tree image from the Festival of Trees stamp set and the sentiment " May Happy Moments and Cherished Memories Surround You with Joy This Season", from the Wondrous Wreath stamp set. 

For the shaker portion of the card I used a piece of Bermuda Bay DSP from the Cherry On Top paper pack.  Even though the DSP used for the front of the shaker box isn't a Christmas paper, it works really well with the Bermuda Bay and Silver Foil card stocks. The decorative window was punched out using the Note Tag Punch. 

I stamped the sentiment with Versa Mark ink and heat set it.  I added Bermuda Bay sequins to the mixture of Frosted Sequins and a few crystal seed beads to give some more action to the shaker.  A small strip of Silver 1/8" ribbon was added to the bottom. 

CASE THE CATALOGUE:

When the powers that be at Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop decided our second project would be CASEing from the Catalogue I was thrilled.  I grabbed my glasses, catalogue, a cup of Java and headed for the back yard to search for my next project.  

Since I was looking for some "Artistic Expression" I went to the section bearing the same name in the Share the Fun Annual catalogue  and found what I was looking for on page 118.  Here's the card that inspired me:

When I bought the Work of Art stamp set last year I made a ton of cards and used it in a lot of projects, and then it got lost on the shelf. Stamping with this set again reminded me just how much I like the wonderful shapes and paint swatches in this 11-piece set.  Here's my card:

I pretty much copied the original placement of the stamping but I changed the ink and card stock colours to make it a little more masculine and added some detail with the large splatter stamp from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set.

Here you can see the gold embossing on the sentiment.  It really makes the word "you" stand out. 

I added Basic Rhinestones to the centers of the gold sequins for extra shine and because my Gold Metallic thread hasn't arrived yet, I used a retired  Stamping gold thread to make the loops.  Note:  When you want to add loops under a button or a sequin, begin with a glue dot on your card surface and use that as a base for bringing your loops around to and stabilizing them  

For the inside of my card I used the Gorgeous Grunge splatters stamped off in Delightful Dijon and Early Espresso inks.  The sentiment "You are a fabulous work of art" was stamped in Early Espresso.

Use a New Punch:

I've been using the Gift Bag Punch Board, the Banner Triple Punch and the Bow Builder Punch a lot since the catalogue was launched in June, so I thought I would combine the three of these great tools to make a cute little gift box for my third project. 

Here it is:

This adorable little box measures 3 5/8" x 3" and is the perfect size for tucking away a sweet treat or small gift for that special person on your list. Since the friend I made this for is really into animal prints I chose a piece of dsp from the new Go Wild Designer Series Paper Pack to decorate the box.

The Banner Triple Punch makes it so easy to make perfect banners every time by eliminating the guess work.

I used the Bow Builder Punch to make a single bow for the front of the box and added a Basic Rhinestone to the center.

These boxes are super easy to make with the Gift Bag Punch Board.  I'll be doing a post next week showing you templates and ideas for many different projects you can make with this very versatile tool, so I hope you'll come back and visit.

The Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop Welcomes the New Annual Catalog(ue)

Hi everyone and welcome to my contribution to the June Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop. 

This month we're celebrating the launch of the new 2015-2016 Share the Fun Annual Catalogue, and projects related to Father's Day, Graduation and "something new".

Father's Day Project:

For my first project, I've made a Father's Day Card using the Guy Greetings stamp set featured on page 98 of the catalogue. Before I share my card, I just want to express how grateful I am that this stamp set was carried forward from the Spring Occasions catalogue.  It is probably one of the best male themed stamp sets I've used in a long time. 

Guy Greetings Stamp Set #137178 is a 22 piece stamp set that comes in Clear or Wood Mount and Photopolymer, and is available in English and French versions.

Graduation Card 
Since my niece is graduating this month, I wanted to make her a special graduation card.  While scouting around on the internet for graduation card ideas I found one by Glenda Caulkins of The Stamp Camp blog, that really caught my interest.  As the school colours were exactly what I was looking for, I decided to CASE her original card, with is called a "Peek A Boo Front Flip card".  You can see Glenda's card here, and here's my original CASE with a couple of changes.

This is a flip top fancy fold card.  Just the center part opens up.  I'll be posting more details and a brief tutorial on how this card and the shaker card below are assembled in my Sunday post, so make sure you come back and check it out.

When you open the flip top you have room to right your message below the sentiment.

When I was asked to make something with a graduation theme for this blog hop, I wanted something a little more exciting so I used the same card colours and stamp set, but designed a "shaker" card.

Both cards were made with the Celebrate Today stamp set, another carry over and favourite of mine. 

Here's my graduation shaker card:

 

I added some gold and royal blue seed beads along with the Metallic Sequins to the inside of the balloon shaker.  What fun!  The sentiment is embossed with Gold Embossing Powder.

Something New
