Valentine's Day - Pretty Projects

Beside Christmas, I still find Valentine's Day to be one of my most creative times of the year.

As a young girl I couldn't wait to deliver my handfull of Valentine's to my school mates and collect several in return.  In those days we used to purchase a book of paper Valentine's and then carefully cut them out.  I don't rememer there being any envelopes, but I do remember writing little verses on the back of these cute little bits of artwork.  What fun!

Speaking of having fun, I attended Cheryl LeFore's January stamp club the other night and was thrilled to make two Valentine's Day projects, and I'm excited to be able to share them with you.

Project No. One - Valentine Heart Card
Cheryl was inspired by Peggy Noe's Pretty Paper Crafts Occasions Sneak Peak featuring the Language of Love stamp set to recreate a card for our first project. Although this card may look difficult, it was pretty straightforward and fun to put together.  Here are the details.

Supplies:

Card Stock:
Whisper White #100730 for card base and stamped images
Pool Party #122924
Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack #132996

Ink:
Real Red #126949
Pool Party #126982

Stamps:
Countless Sayings #135892, Photopolymer Stamp Set (NEW)
Language of Love # 133077 (NEW)

Accessories:
1/8" Real Red Taffeta Ribbon #119251
Basic Rhinestones #119246
Small Heart Punch #117193
Scallops Texturized Embossing Folder #132971 (NEW)
Owl Builder Punch #118074
Hearts a Flutter Framelit Dies #
Banner Framelits #132173

Assembly:
1.  Cut Whisper White card stock to 8 1/2 x 4 1/2

2.  Cut 1/2 x 4 1/2 piece of Pool Party card stock and emboss with Scallops Embossing Folder.
The beautiful rows and rows of scallops on this embossing folder are simply beautiful!

3.  Cut 8" piece of Red Taffeta Ribbon. Secure ends to back of Pool Party piece and trim.  Use trimmed piece to tie a bow in the front.  Clip ends of ribbon so they don't fray.

4.  Adhere Pool Party piece to Whisper White card base.

5.  Using Hearts a Flutter Framelit Dies cut out the following heart shapes:
  • 2 scallop hearts in Real Red card stock
  • 4 scallop hearts from Fresh Prints DSP stack for card front (2 of each pattern)
  • 2 medium sized hearts in Real Red card stock
  • 4 small hearts in Fresh Prints DSP each a different pattern
Coordinating colors: Coastal Cabana, Crumb Cake, Real Red, Whisper White.
■ 48 sheets: 4 ea. of 12 double-sided designs
■ 4-1/2" x 6-1/2"
■ Acid free, lignin free
6. On scrap piece of Whisper White card stock stamp line image from Language of Love stamp set in Pool Party and again in Real Red inks.  Punch out two each of Pool Party and Real Red Hearts (different designs) with Small Heart Punch.

7.  Stamp large heart from Language of Love stamp set in Real Red on scrap of Whisper White card stock.  Cut out with Hearts a Flutter Framelit and glue this piece to one of the large scallop hearts in Real Red.

8.  To  assemble line up card stock base on grid paper so the top of the card is facing towards the 5 1/2" measurement on the grid.  This will be your reference mark so you don't go over the size of a standard envelope.  Lay two different patterned larger DSP hearts on left and right hand side of the card base front making sure they don't go beyond the 5 1/2" mark and then adhere. Flip the card base over and adhere the matching patterned hearts to the back side of the front heart.
Card Front.
 9. On the front side of the card adhere the Red Scalloped Heart in between the two DSP Hearts with dimensionals.  Flip card over and attach second Red Scalloped heart to the backside of the card, lining up the heart with the one on the front.

10.  Punch out a teeny little heart in Pool Party using the Bird Builder Punch. Attach a basic rhinestone to the center of this little heart and then attach to the bottom right hand side of the Red Scalloped Heart on the front of the card with a dimensional.

11.  Attach two of the DSP Hearts (different patterns) to each of the large DSP hearts on the card front with dimensionals.  Try to angle them towards the center.

12.  Flip card to inside and adhere two die cut hearts on right inside panel matching height of these hearts to the left hand panel.  Attach the Pool Party embossed heart to the center of these two hearts.

13.  To finish off left hand side of the inside of the card, attach one each of the stamped red and pool party hearts with dimensionals.

14.  Stamp XO from the Countless Sayings Photopolymer stamp set in Real Red ink randomly on the inside of the card on each panel.

Project No. Two - Valentine Gift Bag:

This second project was quick and simple to make using the Sweet Heart Treat Bags #134610 from  the "Whole Lot of Love" Valentine Promotion. These treat bags are such a great deal.  Each $6.95 package includes 12 heart sacks made out of really good quality paper, 12 die cut labels, 12 pre-cut pieces of Pool Party Baker's Twine.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets:
That's The Ticket #131946(w) or 128075(cm)

Card Stock:
Whisper White #100730
Real Red #102482
Red Glimmer Paper #121790

Ink:
Pool Party #126982

Accessories:
Sweetheart Treat Bags #134610
Spiral Flower Originals Die #    pg 32 Occasions catalogue
Owl Builder Punch #118074
Ticket Duo Builder Punch #126883
Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder #117335
Basic Pearls #119247
Big Shot Machine
Glue Gun or Tombow Adhesive
Hershey or other flat Chocolate Bar

Assembly:

1.  Remove one of the Sweet Heart Envelopes from the kit and put a Chocolate Bar inside.  We used a Hershey's chocolate bar which lies flat in the envelope.

2. Cut a 2 x 3" piece of Real Red cardstock into a banner and emboss it with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder and the big shot machine.  Adhere this banner point side down to the left hand side of the Sweet Heart Envelope.

3. Scrunch a 4 x 5" piece of Whisper White card stock into a ball and break down card stock fibers.  Unroll and place card stock on Spiral Flower Originals Die and roll through Big Shot Machine.

4. Using a wooden dowel or quilling tool and starting at the small end of the flower spiral roll up the flower.  The tighter you roll the tighter and smaller the rose will be.  When you get to the end fold the large scallop underneath the flower and secure with either tombow glue or a heat gun.  I prefer the heat gun as it drys immediately.  Glue a Basic Pearl to the inside of the rose.  Use the heat gun again to glue the flower to the Real Red Banner on the left hand side.
I love the texture that scrunching up the card stock gives to this flower it makes it look so real.   If you look closely you can see the Basic Pearl Jewel Accent that was adhered with the glue gun to the inside of the rose.  Perfect touch!

5. Adhere a blue striped banner from the Sweet Heart Treats kit to the middle of the Real Red banner.  See picture for placement.

6.  Stamp the Valentine ticket from the "That's The Ticket Stamp Set" in Pool Party ink on a small scrap of Whisper White card stock.  Punch this ticket out using the Ticket Duo Builder Punch.
That's the Ticket Stamp set is on pg 33 of the IB&C is simply perfect for any occasion.

7.  Punch out a small heart with the Owl Builder Punch from the Red Glimmer Paper and adhere it with 2-way glue onto the stamped heart on the ticket.  Attach the ticket to the blue banner with dimensionals.

8.  Using a strip of the Pool Party Baker's Twine from the kit, wrap it around the bag 3 or 4 times and tie off in the front of the bag.  Cut off the tails of the twine if too long.

Voila, you've just created an extra sweet little gift bag for someone you love!
