O'Canada Day Shaker Cards

I'm excited to share more "Canada Day" cards featuring two of Canada's iconic national symbols, the "Beaver" and the "Moose". I'm also jumping for joy because this post is being shared on Amber McMurtry's Doodle Paper Playground Blog.  I've used Amber's April Release - Flaming Sunset Sparkle Blends and they've added some unbelievable sparkle and shine to these cards.

My first card...........
Who doesn't love receiving shaker cards on their birthday? They add such a fun element. Although this is a Canada Day card it could also double for a July 1st birthday.

This shaker card measures 5 1/4" square and is cut from thick white card stock.  It's topped with a 5 1/8" x 5 1/8" layer of Real Red card Stock  and then a 5" x 5" piece of the Canadian Critters designer series paper.  All the glitterati in the corner of this picture are the Sparkle Blends.

For the shaker frame I chose to use a pre-cut die window frame from the O'Canada Card Stock Die Cuts package. It was perfect, measuring 4 3/8" square with a center opening of 3 3/8". I cut a 4 1/4" square of Window Sheet and adhered it on the back of the window frame. To build up the framework around the window frame I applied Stampin' Up!s Foam Adhesive Strips.

Before I attached the shaker frame I mounded a tablespoon of the beautiful Flaming Sunset Sparkle Blends in the center of the Designer Paper Layer and I rubbed my Embossing Buddy over the Acetate window sheet. The colours were very vivid and worked really well with this designer paper.

The beaver who's attached to the front of the card with Dimensionals is from the O'Canada Photopolymer Stamp Set.  I stamped it on Whisper White cardstock with Momento Tuxedo Black Ink, and cut it out with the coordinating  O'Canada Etched Die.

This little guy coloured up quickly using Stampin' Up! Blends in Bronze and Light and Dark Crumb Cake inks.  I wanted the vest to stand out a little more so instead of just colouring it I stamped a second beaver image on Garden Green card stock, cut out the vest and adhered it to the Beaver image. I love the way the paper piecing gives more of a 3-D look to the beaver.  I applied Wink of Stella on the vest buttons, the beaver's eyes and nose and swiped it over the criss-crossed lines on the beaver's tail.  Lots of sparkle and shine!

My second card...........
The image of the flag bearing moose on this shaker card is priceless and makes me smile. It's so Canadiana!  For this shaker card I used another of the window frames from the O'Canada Cardstock Die Cuts pack, to form a 2 1/78" x 4 1/4" rectangle frame.  I luv, luv, luv those little red Maple Leafs.  The Real Red panel was embossed with Stampin' Up!s "Elegant Dots' embossing folder before it was adhered to the A2 Whisper White card panel.   I attached the "Proud Canadian" sentiment with glue dots.

Just look at that beautiful Sparkle Blend peaking through the window.  Awesome!

And, here's a view of the inside of the card where I stamped the moose from the O'Canada Photopolymer stamp set. I coloured his fur with Stampin' Blends and added a little Canadian flag that I cut out from the DSP.  Some red Maple Leafs and the "happy canada day" sentiment finish this card off.

The shaker cards which really shake, rattle and roll feature Doodles Paper Playground Sparkle Blends: Flaming Sunset sequin embellishment mix. Such a colourful fun mixture to work with.  I won these fantastic embellishments back in April (check out this post) and have been dying to put them to good use.  Hats off to Amber McMurtry for creating such amazing blends.  You can purchase these sequin mixes through White Rose Crafts LLC .

Here's a last look at My 2018 Canada Day Cards:
