Out on the Board Walk - AHSC#681

Another sunny week has flown by with only brief moments for doing things outdoors and for cardmaking, which is sad.  I'm currently wrapping up loose ends before I step down as President of our Strata Council, so it's been a busy time.

I did have a great time early in the week when one of my downline and stamping buddies came for a few hours. We had a lot of laughs and great conversation while we managed to create a couple of masculine cards using the April Paper Pumpkin Lakeside Resort kit. Getting together with like minded friends and card makers is such a fun time.  I can't wait until the next time.

Here is this week's Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #681

The happy colours in this sketch inspired me to use the Boardwalk Fun stamp and die set to create a summer themed birthday card.

Here Is My Card:
I really liked the variety of papers in the Beach Boardwalk paper pack.  The pastel mix is easy on the eyes and for layering coordination. I used self-sticking Starform dots that have a silver outline and holographic clear circle to bring out details in the Ferris Wheel.  They look like shiny rivets and really catch the light.

Along with the finishing details I thought the Ferris wheel looked to flat on the square and could use some additional height. Since there wasn't a lot of room to use dimensionals I opted to cut out two more Ferris wheels and adhere them to the first one. The layered Ferris wheel worked perfectly and it was so quick and easy to do.

I really liked the designer paper with ticket designs that I used on the card's front, so I chose to include a full matte of the same paper inside the card. First, I added a Secret Sea matte measuring 5 1/4" x 4",   followed by a 5 1/8" x 3 7/8" piece of dsp.  My intention was to add a basic white matte, however, it covered up too much of the patterned paper. After some heavy thinking, I opted to use a die cut for the inside sentiment and writing area, but I couldn't decide between an oval or a circular die cut, so for the time being, I've left that matte off.

Supplies and Instructions:

Stamps and Dies:
  • Boardwalk Fun SU#166822 stamps
  • Boardwalk Fun SU#166828 dies
Cardstock and Designer Series Paper:
  • Basic White card base 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"
    • scraps for sentiment base and star on Ferris Wheel
  • Secret Sea
    • 5 3/8" x 4 1/8" matte - front
    • 2 1/8" x 5" matte - front
    • 3 3/8" x 3 3/8" matte - front
    • 5 1/4" x 4" matte for inside layer
    • 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" scrap piece to die cut out Ferris wheel
    • Scrap of Pretty in Pink for Ferris wheel seats and star
  • Beach Boardwalk Designer Series Paper
    • 5 1/4" x 4" sunshine matte
    • 2" x 4 7/8" matte
Ink:
  • Secret Sea
Accessories:
  • Dimensionals
  • Starform Silver Stickers

Well that's a wrap!  The Ferris wheel is a fond memory from my youth when I hung around at the Pacific National Exhibition Grounds in Vancouver during the summer.  One of the highlights was going on the Ferris wheel and seeing if you could rock the bench.

Thanks for dropping by and checking out this week's sketch challenge card.

Match Day Birthday using AHSC #670

Happy March Everyone!  It's a beautiful day with sun shining and warmer temperatures expected today and tomorrow in Abbotsford BC.  With blossoms appearing on trees and snowdrops in full bloom in my garden I feel excited for the up coming season.

Atlantic Hearts Challenge #670

Here's My Card:

Once again I'm using the Wonderful Match stamps, dies and papers to create a masculine birthday card. This sketch from Atlantic Hearts was perfect for creating this fun birthday card which came together in no time at all.

The Wonderful Match designer papers are really awesome.  They include two half page layouts of tags, so once I checked out the sketch design I was inspired to grab one of these tags to use in the card front focal. After that it was just a matter of choosing a background paper and a circle.  I used a retired stitched circle die from Stampin' Up! to cut out the trophy from the dsp graphics page and added this with dimensionals to the card front.

I'm still at a loss to as to which photopolymer stamp set in my collection this "Enjoy Your Special Day" sentiment is from. So if you know, drop me a note.

I used the Wonderful Stars Puffy Stickers to finish the card front, but instead of putting them at the top of the card as shown in the sketch, I added them to the trophy circle and sentiment strip to give some additional pizzazz.

For the inside of the card I stamped "Happy Birthday" using the long retired Perennial Birthday stamp set.  I never get tired of this sentiment because of it's size.

The matte is a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of designer paper and matches the strip on the front of the card.  The white matte measures 3 3/4" x 5".  I've added the soccer ball and grass die cuts from the Match Day dies to add some more interest.  Love those  dies.

Thank you for visiting and for leaving me some words of encouragement if you like this rendering of the AHSC#670 challenge.  I hope you'll visit the Atlantic Hearts Challenge blog to see all the wonderful cards posted by the Design Team and other participants too.  Hopefully these card samples will inspire you to be more creative and to challenge yourself to try new layouts and ideas.  Until next time......

Christmas Cards in August AHSC #642

Hi and welcome to my blog.  Have you been out to the stores this past week?  We went to the Seven Oaks mall this morning and I was surprised to see that the summer clothing and decor are gone and Autumn displays are in every window.  I haven't even really had time to enjoy summer yet, and we're already being pushed towards Fall.  I even saw Halloween decorations which gave me pause for thought ....... way too early! Worse than that Christmas Trees and gifts are on sale in  Costco!

The Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge celebrates the3rd Monday of the month challenge and provides a look back to their beginnings. Current Design Team and past members have contributed not only their sketch for this challenge, but have also provided pictures and links to their original challenge.

Masculine Birthday Card

What a busy two weeks I've had decluttering and getting ready for our painter to freshen up our living space.  It's amazing how many collectibles and household goods get stashed away in cupboards, never to see the light of day.  I'm proud of myself as I've managed to box up all my copperware for a Spring garage sale and send off at least four boxes of dishes and Tupperware to some local charities.

Oh and I have to shout out about one of my biggest organizing accomplishments in February.  My husband and I have been procrastinating for quite a while about getting rid of our old Sony TV and cloth recliner.  So, when he brought it up last week again, instead of doing nothing I called 1-800-Got Junk and set up an appointment.  They came the next day and hauled these two items plus our old blinds.  What a relief that was!

Here's this week's sketch at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #618

HERE'S MY CARD:

Time for another masculine birthday card. I need several in the month of March, so this sketch challenge is perfect for using up scraps.  I decided to use some of the paper from the March Hello Spring Paper Pumpkin kit.  The background paper has a small design that has copper in it so that inspired me to make one of the stripes copper foil.

This card got off to a funny start, as I was planning to do a standard top fold A2 card, and then somehow grabbed a 4 1/4 x 11 piece of basic beige by mistake. add to the confusion, thought I had laid my stripes on the bottom of the card and they were actually stuck on the side.  Oh well this is my version of the sketch and I'm sticking with it.

SUPPLIES:

Stamps and Dies:
  • February Paper Pumpkin Kit - Hello Spring paper
  • Stitched circles and Sizzix Nested dies for circle layers
  • "To A Wonderful Friend" and "for you" sentiments from Hello Spring PP stamp set
  • "Happy Birthday" Picture Perfect Birthday #145519 (r)

Cardstock and DSP:
  • Card Base 4 1/4" x 11"  Basic Beige scored at 5 1/2"
  • Scrap Basic Beige for 1/2" circle  for sentiment
  • 2" x 2" scrap Old Olive for circle die cut
  • 3/4" x 5 1/4" strip Copper Foil and 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" scrap for circle
Ink:
  • Copper Clay(r)
Accessories:
  • Dimensionals
I hope you like this card, and will leave me a comment.  I'm interested to know how many masculine cards visitors make during the month.  I always tend to need about four but try to have some extras on hand.  Come back again next week to see the other cards I have made with the March Paper Pumpkin kit.  Cheers!

Winter Birds AHSC #598

This week's sketch at Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge was designed by Michelle Stewart  Here is the sketch:
HERE'S MY CARD:

Today's card came together really quickly because I had all the elements on hand.  It was simply a matter of gathering the birds and leaves from the Nested Winter designer series paper and the background DSP and deciding on the sentiments to use.

Supplies:

Stamp Set:
  • Greetings of the Season #164325
Card Stock and Paper:
  • Crumb Cake 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 scored at 4 1/4 for card Base and scrap for Oval.
  • Whisper White cut two 4" x 5 1/4" for front mat and inside panel and scrap for 2 1/2" oval
  • Nests of Winter DSP 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" piece of Coastal Cabana with snowflakes, birds and leaves
  • Scraps of Garden Green for leaves
Accessories:
  • Framed Florets Dies 1600623 (R) for Crumb Cake Oval
  • Opaque Faceted Gems  #162979 in Pool Party
  • Bow in Cherry Cobbler
  • Small paper snips for fussy cutting
I hope you enjoyed today's card.  It's another one for my Christmas stash. I'd love to hear what you think of the Nests of Winter designer paper.  I didn't purchase the stamps and dies that coordinate with this paper as I felt the paper design itself would be enough to create some great cards, and I was not disappointed.
