If you love flowers.......Hues of Happiness is For You

HUES OF HAPPINESS

When I saw the cover photo on Stampin' Up!s new Annual Catalogue I instantly fell in love with the featured card. The cover card apart from the leaf stamps and sentiment is totally made up by combining designer series paper (DSP) and flower images cut from the Hues of Happiness designer series paper.

This DSP is simply beautiful and I can tell you it sure makes me smile every time I look at it.  The paper is part of the Hues of Happiness Suite (158828).

This paper features illustrated and painted flowers on one side and a selection of coordinating all-purpose patterns on the other side. The concept artist(s) who designed Hues of Happiness chose the colours so they'd represent the Stampin' Up! colour spectrum. What wonderful art work. The repeating patterns can be used as focal images, accent pieces or elegant backgrounds and are terrific for card bases and scrapbook pages.

The Hues of Happiness DSP coordinates perfectly with the following Stampin' Up! colours:
  • Coastal Cabana
  • Daffodil Delight
  • Flirty Flamingo
  • Fresh Freesia
  • Gorgeous Grape
  • Granny Apple Green
  • Mango Melody
  • Melon Mambo
  • Mossy Meadow
  • Night of Navy and
  • Pool Party.
Here are Some Card Ideas I came up with:

I haven't purchased the Happiness Abounds Bundle (158824) which includes the Happiness Abounds stamp set and the Blossoming Happiness dies yet as I just wanted to get my hands on the DSP.   In particular these two sheets:

While I was watching tv I fussy cut all the roses, leaf images and the small flowers that were in the background.  Literally there was hardly anything in the scrap pile as everything was cuttable and useable.

While I was at it I pre-cut card bases and mats from the coordinating card stock colours and before adhering these mats I die cut stitched circles, squares and rectangles to use on the fronts of my cards from their centers.

I also used a variety of embossing folders to add designs to my 3 3/4" x 5" Whisper White mats, and left enough space for a larger type sentiment.

Card Bases:   8 1/2" x 5 1/2" scored at 4 1/4"
Mats:             1st mat for card front - 4" x 5 1/4" (1) and cut 1 for the inside
Whisper White layer 3 3/4" x 5" for front and one for the inside.

The card base for this card is Starry Sky, followed by a layer of silver foil card stock. The embossing was done on the top part of the whisper white mat with the retired Meadow Moments Embossing Folder.  I stamped the "thanks" sentiment which is from the Artistically Inked stamp set in Starry Sky ink. The flowers were adhered directly to the white mat with adhesive except for the Fresh Freesia flower which was attached with dimensionals.

Here is another version of the thank you card.  On this one I've used a Fresh Freesia mat for contrast and used a 3" Starry Skye stitched circle as a base for the floral arrangement.  The embossing folder is called Greenery (Retired). embossing folder to

For this thank you card I didn't do any embossing in the background, choosing to leave it plain, but I changed up the mat and flower colours and added a double stitched circle mat in Fresh Freesia and Whisper White.  The sentiment is from Plentiful Plants (155693).  Basic Pearls add a touch of nostalgia to this card.

I built a larger bouquet of the Flirty Flamingo and Melon Mambo floral images and framed them using the Stitched With Whimsy (155314) dies.

My final card is a fun fold flap card.  I totally loved this as I was able to use a mixture of designs.

And because I love this Flap Card so much, I made another one featuring some bolder papers from the Hues of Happiness DSP.  Let me know which is your favourite.

Well that's it for this post.  I look forward to sharing some more cards made with this beautiful designer series paper.  Next time around I'll share some Birthday and Thinking of You cards.  Hope you enjoyed them, I'd love to hear which are your favourites.

Hippest Hippos Really Rock!

I'm suffering from cuteness overload this week and it's all because of the Hippest Hippos Stamp Set and matching dies I got for FREE from the Stampin' Up! Sale-a-bration sale that's going on until the end of this month.  Have you seen this set?  If not check it out:

These three hippos are sure to bring smiles, whether they are stamped individually or grouped.  Just think of all the fun combinations you can make. You can get this stamp set Free until the end of August or while supplies last with the purchase of $60 CDN in Stampin' Up! Products (before s&h and tax).

There is also a Hippo Die set in the Sale-A-Bration flyer that coordinates with the Hippest Hippos and it really is a must have for making these cute cards.  Again it is FREE with the purchase of $60, CDN in Stampin' Up! Products.

Here are a few of the Hippest Hippo cards I've made:

Although these cute Hippos are perfect for a child's birthday card, I think a few of my adult friends would also get a kick out of them.  Prior to making these cards I stamped a whole page of Hippos - all three images - and coloured them with Stampin' Blends.  I experimented to see which colours I liked the best, and then used the dies to cut out the Hippos and all the accessories.  Then I got to work.

My first card features the little Hippo holding a flower stem.  So cute!

The background was created with a blending brush and Tahitian Tide ink on this quick and easy card.  The hippo's body is coloured with light and dark Smokey Slate blends and I used Grey Granite on his tummy and muzzle.  So sweet!  This card came together in minutes but it's sure to get big smiles when I send it out later this month.

My second card is a slimline birthday card featuring all three of the hippo images in all their cuteness!  The Tahitian Tide card base measures 8 1/2" by 7" and is scored at 3 1/2".  I've added a 3 1/4" x 8 1/4" mat in Sweet Sorbet, followed by a Whisper White mat measuring 3 1/8 x 8 1/8".

I used blends to achieve the cloudy sky and made a stencil pattern using the cloud border die piece from Basic Border Dies.  Normally  I would use Pool Party ink when blending in the clouds, but today I decided to use Tahitian Tide and I was really pleased with how light the colour was.  I'm sure this will be my new "go to" colour for skies.  I created a sandy base by stamping the ground image from Paradise Palms to give a layered look.  This was stamped with Sahara Sand ink.

I used the rounded die which looks like clouds at the top of the picture .

I've used the same matting format for the inside of the card which features the Hippo Ballerina.

My third birthday card features two of the Hippos on a stenciled background. The Hippos are coloured with Light Gray Granite and Light and Dark Smokey Slate Stampin' Blends.  The sentiment is from the retired Many Messages stamp and die set.

The inside of this card features the Happy Birthday sentiment from the retired Perennial Birthday stamp set and the "hope you find a little paradise....." is from the Paradise Palms stamp set.  The flowers and leaves are part of the Hippo Die cuts.

My final card features a lot of the dies from the Hippo Die set and it was super fun to create. I repeated the Tahitian Tide cloudy sky technique to begin the background and the Sahara Sand for the beach.  I stamped the three Palm Trees using garden green and Early Espresso markers.  I stamped the son directly on the card stock and then masked it off during the blending phase of this card.  Wow the background is really great looking!

This little hippo is all decked out with his snorkel and mask and little brown boat.  What fun!

Well that's it for now.   Hope you'll write a comment and let me know if you like these type of cards.  I'd love to hear from you.  Until next time.........

Christmas Scottie - sooooooooo cute!

I hate to say it but it won't be long until Christmas.  Every year I try to make as many Christmas cards as I can during the summer months in an attempt to be ready for November mailing.  No matter how many I make I always seem to need more.

When I placed my first order from the July- December Holiday Mini catalogue, the first thing on my "must have list" was the "Christmas Scottie" bundle.  Wow, this set doesn't disappoint and it's good value for the money.

Christmas Scottie

Here are some of the cards I've made using this set:

For this card's focal element I combined two of the tags from the Taylor Made Tag Die set.    In the back ground I've made a mat with scraps of designer paper mounted onto a 3 3/4" x 5" piece of Whisper White card Stock.  Love the design!

Since I'm trying to use up paper supplies, these cards feature a lot of retired Stampin' Up! DSP as well as some from other sources.  To get started with these Christmas Scottie cards I began by gathering up all my dsp, coordinating card stock for mats and card bases, pre-cut tags, stitched circles and other accessories and put them on my desk top in handy reach.

Next I stamped at least 40 of the Scottie dogs - each of the three images and either punched or fussy cut them.  The shape of the Scottie Dogs lends itself well to fussy cutting as there aren't too many tight spaces.   See my tip below about getting the best image.  All my Scotties were stamped at least 4-5 times on my Stamperatus before I began fussy cutting them.

Once the Scotties were stamped and cut out, I stamped bows and boxes and punched or cut them out.  I used Stampin' Blends to colour the small items like holly leaves, boxes and bows.

I also decorated the insides of the cards to coordinate with the card fronts.  Here are some inside samples.

Some Tips for Getting the Most out of this Bundle:

1.  Only the Scottie in the bottom right corner of the stamp set can be cut out with the punch, but you can make mirror images with the cutout.

2.  To get the best image when stamping the Scottie try using a stamp platform such as the Stamperatus.  I inked, stamped the image, and repeated 4 times to get the really black look I was trying to achieve.  Believe me it's worth it.  If you don't have a Stamperatus, make sure your ink pad is very juicy and hold your ink block down against your card stock for a second or two to allow the ink to transfer.

3.  The stamp that's just two lines is actually a box or present and the bow that is standing up fits in the middle (see picture)

I found the best way to layer the images was to stamp the bow first and then stamp the box over top of it lining up the stem of the bow in the opening.

I used the retired Stitched Circle Dies to cut my red circles and a layering circle for the black ones.  I think they provide a great focal point for the card and by pre-cutting a bunch of them ahead of time, assembly of your card is quick and easy.

I fussy cut dozens of these little present boxes while I was watching tv, so I could add as many as I wanted to my cards.  A little red rhinestone placed below the bow adds some colourful sparkle.  The mini dimensionals fit perfectly on the back of these tiny boxes, so they really pop when they're adhered to the card.

4.  For a plaid Scottie you can use the "kissing technique".  Simply ink up the plaid image in your favourite colour and then press the image of the Scottie you want to stamp into the plaid image.  The ink will transfer the plaid design to your Scottie stamp image.

This card features the "kissing technique" see #4 above for explanation.  The background papers are Non-Stampin Up!.

Let me know if you have a favourite from these cards.  I love them all!

To add to my Christmas Card making inspiration I've entered my first card in the Krafty Chicks Christmas Card Challenge #624  Make sure you check out all the great cards for this challenge.
